carried

If your cycle is irregular in nature it is likely that you are not ovulating regularly.

A "normal" cycle is a cycle length of between 21 and 35 days or with less than 4 days of variation from month to month. A 31-48 day cycle warrants further investigation.

Would suggest you forget all about using OPKs altogether (they are useless when periods are irregular anyway) and have a blood test done instead to see what your hormone levels are like. If these are awry such problems can be treated. You need to have a day 2 test done to measure and compare your LH and FSH levels. If these two hormone levels are awry then ovulation will be affected as a result.

attila, can you remember my op saying

on sunday i noticed ewc, wed tested said i was ovulating, i'm not trying for a baby, just trying to get to know my unpredictable cycle more as thinking about trying again some time and last time i bought 100 ovulation test sticks !

i then went on to say my cycle varies from 31 days to 48 days.

you replied with whats in the first post, whcih ive actually only just seen as i only just popped back on there and i missed your comments at the time

anyway what i would like to ask is

  1. does it really matter if im not ovulating properly, if i'm not trying for a baby?
are there other health risks involved with not ovulating
  1. say i go to the drs they test me and say soetings wrong and im not ovulating properly, what woudl they do, give me clomid if i wanted to ttc, what if i said i wasnt ttc would they just leave it or treat me, if so what would they do to me?

thanks for listening, sorry i missed your reply before

it doesn't mean you're not ovulating though, it means you're not regular in your cycles

carriedababi · 09/09/2010 22:59

yes but why is that, and does it have any health risks?

i went to the drs recentley to get norothisterone to make sure i didn';t have a period on holiday, he asked me when i was due on, i replied i have no idea, they come all over the place.

he jsut looked at me liek this Hmm with a hmm yeah right face

should i go back to the doctors now or wait till i wwant to ttc

and if i decide not to ttc does it matter they are not regular cycles?

OPKs are next to useless if you have irregular cycles. They are problematic at the best of times, even more so if cycles are irregular.

Irregular cycles are often caused by hormonal imbalances; in this regard there could be problems with the thyroid gland or there could be a condition called polycystic ovaries. Both of these can be looked for via blood tests.

A condition like PCO should not be messed with by GPs; you should be ideally referred to a gynae for further evaluation. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Irregular cycles can only be problematic if actively ttc. Have always had irregular cycles myself from early teens.

Any other questions just ask.

attila, thanks for the reply.
perhapsi should go to the drs and ask for a blood test, but i'm really scared of being refered to a gyne, as i had a 4th degree tear with dd and had to have a repair op, and allthat so i am terrified of anything gyne.
so if it is something i can just ignore, as it doesn't botehr me i'd rather do that.
and if i had problem ttc then seek help.

but if you really think i ought to see a dr, i will make an appointment.

thanks for taking the time to advise me, really kind of you.

like i said i'm not ttc atm just thinking i might one day in the future so trying to get to know my cycles/body a bit better

not sure how much my previous terrible pg and birth complications are clouding my ability to make a decsion regarding whever to go for more children or not.
i think i suffered with some form of ptsd tbh.
