Anyone had this done?
I think my gynae will want to do one and I hope to avoid a GA. Anyone had it done?

I've had two. Both with dye and both with a general anaesthetic.

purplepeony · 09/09/2010 15:26

Thanks.
Anyone else had this done? My gynae's leaflet say s it can be done with a GA, local, or nothing. I really don't want a GA and wondered if anyone had had 1 and what the pain levels were like.
I have had a endometrial sample taken by him using a pipelle and that was fine.

i had one done a few years ago. I think they gave me a local anasthetic in the cervix. Because i was nervous my blood pressure went sky high before the procedure so they had to give me some medication to bring it down. After that i was fine. No worse than having a smear done. Took about 15 mins i think. Got results before i left as i had no womb lining to be sent off for testing. Hope this helps.

Thanks! I really don't want a GA and I think the only reason he'd want to would be so he could remove anything nasty whilst he was in there. It's only 6 months since the biopsy but I have had somemore spotting and he said next time...

I've had two, neither with anaesthetic, as tilly said, no worse than a smear. Good luck!

Hulababy · 09/09/2010 21:31

I had two, within 304 months of one another Both were done under GA though and accompanied by removal of several adhesions. I was told that in my case GA was essential to avoid cervical shock. My consultant gave me all the relevant advice.

Hulababy · 09/09/2010 21:31

304 should read 3-4

Meglet · 09/09/2010 21:32

I had mine with a GA, so can't really report on the experience. I had LLETZ at the same time too.

If it helps I was only out cold for 30 mins and home for tea. I wouldn't recommend GA's but it didn't make me feel rough.

scaryteacher · 09/09/2010 21:36

Had one without benefit of anaesthetic - more concerned about the lack of gown in Belgian hospitals and everything being on display than anything else.

NotanOtter · 09/09/2010 21:39

had one and NO need for any anaeasthetic
I was a guinea pig for how much pain relief was needed - 7 years ago
I was given a ponstan before the procedure - had a few period pains after

had a room full of students staring at my flue - the pain was irrelevant

NotanOtter · 09/09/2010 21:41

was given ponstan AFTER sorry

purplepeony · 09/09/2010 22:36

Thanks all- I was worried over the biopsy but it was fine.

Back again- gynae suggests I have this done and has agreed to no GA - try with nothing but gritted teeth the local if need be.
He has given me a script for some Voltaral to use beforehand ( i think it's a suppository but might be a pessary- need to check obviously) but the side effects on line are weird.

Anyone any ideas if this is useful- tempted not to use it.

I recenetly had a biopsy done with a 3mm pipelle so this should be roughly the same- that is the idea. I felt fine then- most painful bit was the speculum which seemed to be uncomfortable.

Anyone?

I've had this done recently, one with GA and one without, but with a local anaesthetic(I wasn't given a choice about that - they just did it!)
It wasn't the funnest experience I've ever had,but it was very like having colposcopy done which suggests to me the speculum is the painful bit.Though I did have biopsies taken, and felt those - but at a bearable level.

I went on my own,and I felt fine afterwards although I did feel that I needed a cup of coffee before driving home. I think that was nerves rather than anything else!

Is that any help at all?? Good luck with it.

I had one done last spring with no anaesthetic. No worse than a smear. I think I took a couple of neurofen or paracetamol an hour before.

It was done by an experienced nurse, her helper and a student nurse.

This may sound a bit mad, but the whole thing was fine and was actually quite entertaining. I was so fascinated to see my insides that I forgot to feel stressed!

The staff were lovely though.

purplepeony · 14/09/2010 18:54

Yes, that helps ladies thanks. I wonder why the spec hurts? I think I am going to ask him not to open me up more than necessary as I have had a repair done there and want to keep things intact as much as possible!

He' s got me a bit worried by suggesting I have someone with me and to take me home . I did that for the biopsy and didn't really need to. Was slightly sore but that was more to do with being cranked open!
