My dad collapsed at home 10 days ago after standing up and completely losing coordination and strength in his legs (not unconscious, just couldn't stand). We called an ambulance and by the time it arrived he was able to walk with help.he was checked over and discharged but has had several episodes since. Gp saw him yesterday and has discovered a fairly significant weakness in his left side and given him an urgent referral.
Am not sure if I should take time off work and go with him and my mum at this stage - mum is very on the ball but as I'm the only one around to 'look after' them and she can be a bit on the highly strung side think it might be better if I know what's going on first hand.
Does anyone know what this initial appointment is likely to involve. I can't take holiday as work.term time only and don't want to use up dependents leave if it's just going to be chit chat and arranging tests, tbh.

sounds to me like your dad has had a few TIAs, Google them. I had a major stroke last year and definite signs of stroke are weakness/numbness on one side of the body.

Main things to get him checked for are blood pressure, cholesterol and blood clotting. Initial tests I wouldn't get time off for but if that happens again call 999 and don't hesitate. :)
