Warts on hands

My DH has a few warts on his hands that started a few years ago and have become more in number. After a lot of nagging from me - they are really unsightly - he went to a doctor who told him to rub some acidy cream on it twice daily and rub it off with a pumice stone. He did this for 2 days before giving up. Since having our DD 7months ago I have repeatedly asked him to go back to the doctors for a more immediate freezing option - as I am concerned about him passing them on to our DD. He can't bothered to make an appointment and doesn't take the risk of passing them on seriously. Does anyone have any experience of this and how did they cure them? We have also tried the over the counter freezing sprays - which had no effect.

I've read somewhere (maybe on here) that putting gaffa tape on the largest wart and leaving til it falls off can help cure them. Absolutely no idea how.

Wikihow has pages on the subject, with dozens of DIY cures and lots of information - good luck!

Afaik, warts are due to a virus that takes hold when your immune system is not as strong as it should be. I have had warts on my hands which cleared up by themselves. They came up when I was under a lot of stress for a long time (years) and I had never had warts before that. I still have a couple of small warts on one finger but they are very small and hardly visible.

So I would suggest your DH eats healthily to boost his immune system and makes sure he regularly uses stress manangement techniques to ensure stress levels are not sky high (like mine were).

My DD has had one for about 2 years now. The Dr told her that she could try a similar tretment to your DH but that often it causes them to come back and often you get two! She was told it's probably best to leave them until her immune system can kill it on its own.

Have to say in the 2 years no-one else has got one from her including her younger brother and sister so probably quite low risk to your DD.

I have had one on my finger for more than 10 years Hmm None of my children has caught one from me.

Like the others, my DC's haven't caught any of my warts so far, and I have had them for about 4 years, so I don't think they are 'catching' in the same way as other viruses.

I can recommend prescription strength Compound W. Works well within a fortnight. My personal opinion is not to bother with over-the-counter stuff as they take weeks to eradicate the wart or verruca.

Get your DH to ask his GP to write a prescription out, or alternatively, try an on-line pharmacy who sometimes will allow you to purchase prescription strength Compound W. Remember to follow the instructions.

There are different kinds of warts too.

Its worth trying different things I think.

DS had several on his hands and we had the largest ones frozen by the Dr and that only seemed to shatter the virus and he then had them multiply rapidly Sad We tried bazuka and they disappeared in two weeks, they just sort of fell off and have not returned. Weird Only he ever had them.

I had Salactadol from the docs, worked a treat but you have to keep up applying it for at least a week or so once or twice a day. Worth it though I had about 5 on my hands and they are finally gone!

Folk remedy courtesy of my great granny..

Take a slug, rub it on the wart/s, place slug on a thorn of a blackthorn tree (sloe), a bird will carry off the slug, wart/s will go.

Have seen this work once!
