Do I have a fertility issue? WARNING- potential hypochondria!

Hi all,

I am sorry to sound like a massive hypochondriac as I'm not even TTC, but I am beginning to wonder whether I have a lurking fertilty issue. I have no dcs and amnot even sure if I plan to have any, but I'm starting to wonder if the decision might be out of my hands. I'd appreciate any first-hand experience, as I am reluctant to go to the GP with just a 'hunch'.

After more than a decade on the combined pill, I was taken off 18 months ago by my GP because of headaches. Since then, we have used condoms, with increasing laxness, really only in the middle of the month. There have been many, many lapses of concentration and yet no pg. So little do I rate the risk now, that we have not used any condoms for the last 2 months, and still no pg.

Some facts:

  • I'm 30, have regular periods, though light and short, and often very painful. The periods came back straight after coming off the pill.
  • I am not overweight, but really struggle to keep my weight down.
  • Since coming off, I have developed some dark hair on my boobs and chest, and a few on my neck. Not excessive, but I am otherwise very fair and hairless.
  • I had three 'mild changes' smear results in my early twenties and had a couple of colposcopies.

Do these symptoms ring any bells with anyone? Should I be worried about PCOS or anything else? Or am I just horribly paranoid?

Any thoughts much appreciated, thanks.

hmm, i would probably ask your gp for some routine bloods to be on the safe side, it does sound like there may be some kind of hormone imbalance.

Thanks for that suggestion, TLOTGK. I know it's daft, but I am always veru reluctant to approach the GP for this sort of thing. I mean, how do I phrase it? Link it to going off the pill? I don't really want to say, 'I've been lax with conraception and yet am not pregnant'!

just say that you havent really been using contraception and you are concerned that the pill was masking an underlying problem. write everything down (including your period timetable) so yu dont forget anything.

Good advice, thanks, TLOTGK. Will do.
