Continuous wear contact lenses

I currently have daily disposables, I don't like wearing them as I don't feel I can see as well in them. Optician says that although they can't get the lens quite as powerful as my glasses (limited prescriptions on daily lenses) that I can see as well as my glasses when they do the sight test at the opticians.

Well I know I can't see as well, cant wear them for work, can't read in them, can't drive. She says its 'cos I have very dry eyes and the lens sticks to my eye and isn't in the right place. They also feel scratchy, I guess due to being dry.

So I hardly wear them, probably less than 10 times a year. Went for a checkup today as have run out of lenses.

I asked her about these new continuous wear lenses. She thinks they're a good idea for me, they let more oxygen in so won't be as dry and scratchy and they'll be able to get a better prescription fit.

I am hoping that they're going to be some sort of life changing product. But I feel I'm a bit bonkers as at the minute I can't wear my lenses for more than a few hours without them really starting to irritate.

DOes anyone else have these? How do you find them?

i have them 30day day and night ones i find them really good tbh and i am -9.5 with slight astigmatism. occasionally need a clean during the month but little dryness and i work in an air con office. comfort drops are good if you feel you need them but i don't. i am a former rigid gas permeable wearer and I find these better.

i suppose if you are happy to clean them overnight you wouldn't need to wear them continuously but still get the benefit of the better lenses.

Have you considered laser eye surgery? I am thinking about it as I feel it will be less expensive in the long run.

I have them, -4.5. But I'm afraid I can't keep them in continuously, if I sleep in them I can't see a thing or even take them out because they've virtually dried up and become stuck to my eyes. I've been wearing contact lenses for 17 years, so admittedly may have damaged my eyes slightly through lack of oxygen. A friend of mine thinks they're amazing, so it must vary person to person. I'm now considering laser surgery.

I have ones that you wear for a week, then clean over night. Do this for 4 weeks and then throw away and start a new pair.

I have had them for a few years and have no problems at all with them. I would definitely recommend them.

You could try them out for a few days and see how you go before committing to buying them.

I had them, they were fine for a couple of years but then all of a sudden it changed, dry itchy eyes and I had to stop wearing them. I've gone back to daily and I'm much more comfortable.

I can't have laser surgery, went to a big place in Leeds about 6 years ago and they said I have a combination of thin corneas and a strong prescription (-8.0). If it had been one or the other it would have been ok but not both.

I am having a trial, just waiting for the lenses to come into Specsavers. I'm excited but don't want to get my hopes up too much.
