Wrong looking poo

I am really worried about the change in my 13 month old son's nappies. His poo is very loose and very smelly and has very strange clear stringy jelly type stuff in it. He was purely breast fed for 6 months, then vegan/wheat free til he was one. Since then he has been having cheese and wheat, maybe this is why.

He always had very solid poos before and I am very worried.

He has been teething but this has never affected his poo before.

Please help.

Same here, been going on for almost 2 weeks. DD is 19 mo, never been vegan though, and never showed any allergic reaction to anything. Although I cut the milk out (she only ever has it on cereal in the morning), but still kept the cheese and yoghurt, for the last 3 days and poo looks a bit more normal. Hmm.

I will be taking her to the docs if it doesn't go back to normal within next few days.

How is he in himself? Is he developing normally, happy and alert etc?

How long has this been going on for? If just a day or two could be a slight diarrhoea type bug? This would account for it being loose and smelly? How many dirty nappies a day is he producing.

Obviously if he seems unwell or you are worried you must seek proper medical advice.

He is very happy and alert and otherwise not bothered by his bottom changes. His bottom is obviously sore but he is his normal cheery self.

The first sign of any change was last Monday, when he needed changing almost twice as often. We are changing him more often, he had a tummy bug once which was much worse in terms of diarrhoea but I am concerned because of the wierd clear stringy jelly bits.

I think you should see a doctor.

That mucus, I wouldnt worry tbh, I remember both of mine having this, see how he goes and if you're still concerned ring the doc for advice.

Right, I googled a bit and it seems a presence of mucus in stool can be a sign of anything from bacterial overgrowth(not serious) to cystic fibrosis(serious).

I would wait a few more days and if it doesn't change, I would take him to a doctor. That's what I'm going to do with DD, anyway.
