Eye Q - dosage for 19mo?

Just bought a bottle of the liquid after seeing it recommended here for eczema. It says 3tsp a day for 12 weeks, then down to 1tsp a day, and that this is ok for kids and adults. I just wondered if I should give dd a bit less, as she's only 19m. Anyone know?

Any thoughts at all?

Is it just fish oils, that sort of thing? If it just contains oil, it can do no harm to give the full dose as far as I know. If there are added ingredients you had better check with a nutritionist as some health supplements (e.g. vitamins) can be toxic in overdose.

I give dd 2 tsps a day and she is a 24lb nearly 3 yr old, about the same size as an 18 mth old.
Also her speech has dramtically improved since beginning this and she had a diet already quite high (or so I thought ) in Omega oils, ie oily fish etc.

Thanks piffle. franny: it's fish oil, evening primrose oil, sunflower oil and natural vit E (+ vanilla flavouring).

aNY idea how long a bottle of this lasts you?

piffle · 31/08/2005 20:31

its a 200 ml bottle so thats 40 doses, we go through ours about every 3 weeks I think?

Flossam · 01/09/2005 08:06

Right, Gosh! It's an expensive habit to start then!

Furball · 01/09/2005 08:11

I've always just given 1 x teaspoon right from the start at 12 months old and a bottle lasts about a month and a bit. Keep an eye on Boots as it is quite often on 3 for 2, which is obviously a nice little saving!

I've made the mistake this time of getting Boots own, it's really gloopy and thick and trying to get it out the bottle is a right kerfuffle.

is that boots smart omega oil? yesterday I bought the haliborange omega chewy vits for ds but he really doesn't like them and says he would prefer his off a spoon. Is the boots own ghastly?

Furball · 01/09/2005 08:57

I don't know taste wise but it's really thick and doesn't pour out the bottle.

Don't know about the Boots stuff but DD turned her nose up at the Eye Q vanilla stuff this morning - agh. The Boots one is just fish oils I think - thought Eye Q seemed a better idea because of the extras in it but will give Boots a try if anyone can tell me if it tastes ok (to toddlers that is!)? She loves medicines like Calpol - I'm not sure if there's anything I can do to make this one more palatable - I can predict she'll just reject any food I put it on.

dd happily takes the lemon one, she just trests it like any other medicine -
iIt tastes like poo
but its good for YOU
Our little song for yukky medicines...

Ds prefers the eye-q lemon one to Boots I think it's Jimjams who actually mixes it into her sons yoghurt and he doesn't even know hes eating it. maybe you could try that?

Thanks furball I'll try the yoghurt thing. Piffle DD is only 19m - she'd probably understand that song but is unlikely to take the message on board! Sounds like I should've bought the citrus one but will persevere with vanilla .....

I also put supplements (Omega oils and multi-vitamin powder) in a yogurt for my son and he has no complaints about taking them. Can also whizz them up with fruit, milk etc. as a smoothie and serve with a straw - I've sneaked all sorts in that way!
