MMR Reactions - How long do they last?

tid · 31/08/2005 15:08

DD is booked in for her MMR in 2 weeks. Just realised that we leave for hols in the States exactly 3 weeks later. Is this too close for comfort? Or is it likely she will be over any poorliness by then?

I thought it would be a good idea to get it done before, but now I'm not so sure. Don't want to be travelling with an unwell toddler. Jet lag will be bad enough to deal with.

Any advice/experiences greatly appreciated!

DS had a really bad 24 hour reaction about 7 days later.

When I say really bad,I mean cold, fever, really snotty nose.

He was as right as ninepence the next day.

DD was poorly after her MMR for about 2-2.5 weeks.

My dd was fine with hers - her arm was swollen and sore for a couple of weeks and she had one day with a slightly runny nose about a week after the jab, but she wasn't ill at all.

Thanks everyone - very helpful! I guess it depends on the individual in the end, but sounds like DD should be on the tail end of it by the holiday. Now fingers x-ed that that last molar holds off for a month or two! Thanks again!

OMG - is this for real? I think I'm definitely holding off on the MMR until at least 18 months. Hopefully DS will be able to talk by then

Highlander, I'm doing the same. I'd like DS immunised before the winter months - he's 17mo on Saturday, so I figure waiting till October will be OK.

highlander · 01/09/2005 11:01

Hmm, I never thought about winter. DS won't be 18 months until March. Mind you, I could keep BF until then and give him some passive immunity.

Ds had his last Friday and developed a little measels rash on his neck and chest today. Fine in himself so far (fingers crossed, we go on holiday this saturday!!)
