Ok, so I have a lump just infront of/just under my left ear. Went to a brilliant walk in centre (NHS) on Monday and the DR spoke with ENT consultant straightaway. He said I would need to see the ENT guy within the next few days - phoned today and I see him Thursday morning, first thing.

Seems to be something to do with my parotid gland.

Walk in centre Dr gave me antibiotics, "just in case" but said he didnt think it was infected. Hmm

Question is: Does anyone have experience of anything like this? Lump itself is not painful. I have felt Slightly unwell and under the weather for about 4 weeks. about 10 days ago I thought i had slept awkwardly and ached all down my neck. This ache has remained and is sometimes worse than others. I have googled about blocked salivary glands and I am not convinced this is what mine is as it does not get bigger when I eat. Lump was first noticed 6 days ago and it has grown since then.

Anyone???

Thnaks

Is it starting to disappear? How are you feeling now?

Hi,

Its gone down to how it was at the beginning of the month. Getting smaller than a golf ball size now. The increase in size was apparently due to infection, which also made me feel absolutely awful and was causing a lot of the pain.

I go to see the consultant on Tuesday to discuss what is to be done. Nothing needs to be done in a rush, so I can think about the options. An operation to remove it does have risks of damage to my facial nerve and leaving me with "Bell's palsy" (a lopsided face) so my initial thoughts are that if I dont need it done, I will probably see if I can live with it, but that brings up lots of questions about the possibility of it turning nasty at some stage etc. etc..

I am happy now though Smile

That's great, glad you are feeling better now, what a relief.

Yes I can see that's a bit of a dilemma. I didn't know it was liable to turn dodgy at some point...fwiw when my friend had her lymph dissection, she did have a bit of a slopey eye for a while on one side, but it got better after a few weeks. That's probably a bigger op, and there wasn't any other damage, so quite encouraging in a way.

I hope it goes well on Tues. Really pleased that it's gone down again and you're feeling better! Smile
