many months of heavy periods.

Initially taking Tranexamic acid x 4 times daily and now dicynene as well.

I have just been drip, drip dripping blood that as soon as I wipe I can feel the warm drip of blood onto the loo paper...I can't keep up with itSad
I stand up and it drips like a nose bleed!!

I have a consultant appointment on wednesday but feel really stressed about it tonight.

Sorry, I know it's vile........

Um I hate to jump in here and ask this but have any of you tried a mooncup?

AlgebraRocksMySocks · 29/08/2010 23:23

I have thought about it, not sure I'm hygienic organised enough...

Lyn3 · 29/08/2010 23:26

What is the capacity of a mooncup? In one evening a few months back in a couple of hours I lost about a pint of blood - had Hb test the day before - lost horrendous amount the next day and went for Hb test the day after - the level dropped so much, the doc said I must have lost at least a Pint to get it down that quickly.. that was the first time it was quite as bad as that... have had that several times like that since then.... I cannot see that a mooncup would have a chance in hell of coping with that... sanitary towels don't... I end up just sitting on the loo and waiting for it to be over.... what else do you do??... Confused

pellmell · 29/08/2010 23:30

mooncup.... good grief!
I would imagine it would feel a little bit like having a double F cup silicone implant in my knickers!

Lyn3 you could be right, but it kind of depends I guess, off the top of my head I think a mooncup holds about 20 / 25ml, But! There is a strange thing with mooncups, I have one and I know lots of people who do and they seem to reduce peoples flow / shorten periods.

Most of the people on this thread seem to be very extreme bleeders, but I think in some of your cases I would be very tempted to give it a go.

TBH theres very little organisation :)

Each month or whenever I come on I get it out of its little cotton bag and sterilise it in the microwave in one of these ( they fold away so take up very little space.) Then you use it much like a tampon (although it sits lower) and rinse with water every time you empty it. At the end of the bleed I wash really well and put it back in its bag. I do team it up with washable panty liners but its more psycological than necessary :).

I don't sell them or anything I'm just a convert. :) On a recent holiday I had an unexpected AF and had to resort to shop bought pads and super heavy duty tampons, It was horrible. :(
You can buy them
here on ebay.

I realise some or the ladies on this thread have problems way beyond the magic of a mooncup, but it may help some of you???

AlgebraRocksMySocks · 30/08/2010 00:02

I will consider it :) expensive though, to try it if it isn't right for me.

does it hurt to use? I've found tampons painful since having DS, for some reason.

fortyplus · 30/08/2010 00:08

Hey ladies have any of you considered endometrial ablation? less drastic alternative to hysterectomy but not suitable for anyone wanting more children. I'm off to bed now but if you search over past 4 years or so I've posted quite a bit on the subject - has worked brilliantly for me Smile

Algebra, the way I looked at it was based on how much I was spending on tampons and pads. There was a risk that I would hate it, but on the other hand what uif it was my savour and I never tried it for the sake of a few quid?

I find tampons painful now ( 4 dc's) but I don't find my mooncup painful at all.

When I 1st started using it I was very consious of it, but I think that was more of a heightened awareness issue just because it was new iyswim?

Like anything new you need to stick with it a bit and give it a chance.

When I told my dp that I was thinking about getting one he said it was a fad and I would use it a coulpe of times and relegate it to the back of the cupboard. He now admits he was wrong Grin. I v glad I got one. If you are thinking about it read up on it beyond my blatherings, make sure you get the right size. :)

whomovedmychocolate · 30/08/2010 17:16

Algebra - the mirena is actually made of plastic not metal. And it's tiny - you can fit one in the palm of your hand. I was imagining a metal screw type affair. Weight gain is not unheard of with any hormonal contraception, but I have to say, so far it's not been my experience - in fact because I don't feel so shit with PMT I'm not mainlining chocolate so I'll probably lose weight. :)

And if it doesn't work out for you, you can have it removed.

MigGril · 30/08/2010 20:16

Algebra - I've had a mirena in the past, I have heavy periods with clotting. And found it really good, stopped my periods altogether and stop my mirgraines to. I actually lost weight with it so didn't have any weight gain problems.

I'll have another one fittied after this baby is born, it's perfectly compatable to use when breastfeeding as well. It was quit uncomftable to have it fittied, but the first time I had one I hadn't had any children which is supposed to make it more painfull at fitting.

I've seen the consultant today and am going for endometrial ablation ???? I think that's right on the 21st of september.

Will go for scan first though.

Sorry to be brief but am a bit knackered tonight!

belgianbun, that flow rate sounds very similar to my friend who went on to a moon cup. On the day that she was 30 mins with a tampon, she could go 2 hrs with a mooncup. It made a big difference to her :) hth
