Visual Disturbance

Am a bit freaked out by this..

Am very very tired at the moment due to not sleeping for weeks, and got cystitis, also had very strenuous day.

Was out in bright sunlight then came on and was talking to DH on MSN when suddenly I realised I couldn't read all the words on the screen..bright spots were obliterating them like when you have looked at the sun.

Suddenly my vision had more and more sparkles like I was going to faint.

I lay down, then everything started swimming in my left eye until I could not see out of it.

it eventually passed then i felt off colour for a while. Has been fine since.

I was due to go out so didn't get checked out, probably stupid but i suspected it was migraine-related although I have never had a migraine and I didn't really get a headache.

Could it be an ocular migraine?

Should I be rushing to get checked out or just see GP next week?

I get these "visual disturbances" too. Mine are kind of like zig zaggy lines and cloud my vision for about 20 - 30 mins.

I also find that if I drink loads it helps them go away quicker, don't know if they are anything to do with dehydration too ?

I have ran these past my optician a number of times and also mentioned them at recent check ups at the eye hospital and no one was worried about them. They just said to be more concerned if you have bright flashing lights as this may indicate signs of retina detachment (I think?).

They are freaky aren't they? Like 123 I first had one when pregnant. On my second pregnancy I had so many I lost count - and 5 or 6 they day after I had the baby by c-section. Apart from hormones, the only trigger I can discern is thirst, so I think sparkle is right about dehydration (or at least for some women). I have never had a headache with them
