Becoming Tee Total

After many years of regular social drinking along side a couple of bouts of excessive drinking, I'm thinking of going Tee Total.

Has anyone done it? How was it? How did you explain it to friends and family?

Would love to get some thoughts and experiences from other Mums out there.

I am tee total for medical reasons. ( not alcohol problem but with my guts, which is a bit personal.))
I have been for over 10 years. I know that if I indulge I will suffer. I don't like telling people, but so many people don't drink/drive etc that it'sokay to ask for water/soft drinks. The people who do know respect my situation so that's fine.

Are you worried about ho you'll manage ot what others will think?

Thanks P. I have lots of worries:

That I won't actually succeed
That I will miss the drink
That people will think I'm silly for not just being able to cut down.

I drink far too much I know, and I am very overweight and am desperate to regain some control over my life.

Every morning I wake up and think "I won't have a drink tonight" but by 6pm I can't help it.

I did manage to stop for about 3 months (4 years ago) and I can clearly remember enjoying it, but I did feel like there was a death in the family! It's an overwhelming grief at not being able to drink any more.

I am useless at limiting my intake and once I have a glass of wine, I just want more.

About 2 months ago I went for a routine GP appointment and my blood pressure was sky high and I'm now being monitored. The GP has referred me to a weight loss programme and I am waiting for my appointment to come up in September.

I know if I can stop the booze, that I'll be slimmer, healthier and ultimately happier but the fear of failure and lack of will power keeps rearing its ugly head.

IMO it doesn't matter what others think; don't give them or the alchohol the power to ruin yr life GO FOR IT !!! Try drinking sparkling elderflower instead (mix the cordial with sparkling water). Lots of luck!!

My DH gives it up for lent every year and loves the elderflower drink (I wish he didn't come off Lent!}

This might seem a flippant comment but if you c an afford it, I'd really recommend that you find a life coach who specialises in health and healthy lifestyle. They will help you set goals and motivate you.

Try either the www.associationforCoaching.com or www.lifecoach-directory.org.uk

They will also help you look at your whole life and why you drink/eat etc etc.
