Hello,
Think I'm having another migraine attack - flashing lights in left eye which is leading to blurry vision in both eyes.
Usually these knock me out of action for the whole day - which is fine, but I don't have the option. Am home alone with 22 month old.

No help available today - dh at work and mum's car in garage so she is unable to come around. Really am on my own.

Ds has thoughtfully decided that he doesn't need a nap today and is full of beans (hooray :( ) and I really do feel like crap.

Anyone know how to relieve the worst symptoms? Am currently 29 weeks pg too so unable to take anything stronger than paracetamol (already taken). Usually get quite sick with migraines too. Been sick once. Hoping really that's it.

Urgh!!! Going to be a long afternoon feeling like this!

Not a quick fix answer, I'm afraid, but my mum used to suffer from migraines for years, usually at the rate of about one a month. She took strong painkillers for years, but then did her own practical research and tried cutting out different foods. She cut out sugar and now suffers from one migraine about every two years. May be worth looking at trigger foods long term. Hope you feel better soon.

I find eating something helps me feel less nauseous during a migraine.

I find it really helps me if I keep warm, especially my extremities. Get some fluffy socks, and keep eating little and often -- preferably slow-release stuff, and protein. Avoid blood sugar spikes. Good luck Sad.

Lock the doors to the room you're in and turn on tv for the child.

Child proof the room quickly, pick up and put out of reach anything dangerous/messy and leave out lots of interesting toys.

Leave snack food and a drink where he can reach them.

Draw the curtains.

Get an ice pack for yourself and tuck yourself up on the couch with a blanket over you, ice pack on your forehead and a cushion pushed into the pack of your neck (pressure on the back of the neck helps ease the pain)

Doze if you need to, don't worry, he'll come and wake you if he wants anything... they always do if you're sick and need the sleep

You'll survive, it'll suck but you'll survive and he'll be fine if a bit bored. I got through the first 5 months of my last pregnancy with two young kids by doing the above... was really sick and couldn't eat and get migraines when i don't eat... vicious cycle. I've had to do it a few time since with 3 kids to cope with and no one was any the worse for it

Get a plan in place of what ds could do which will fill his time.

A tray of lentls/rice, a few pots, paintbrushes, spoons funnels will occupy my dd for a good half an hour. (your dh can hoover when he comes back)

put him in the bath in his swimmies and rubber ring, cups, jugs etc. Or the shower. Again fills another half hour or longer.

TV a good idea, although my dd would not sit still more than one films worth (so would only buy me an hour).

bring his bike/ride on cars etc inside.

Make an assault course using sofa cushions/sheets.

whilst all this is going on lie down/sit still and make sure you keep your fluids up.

DH will be home soon. If it gets horrific could you ask your mum to get a taxi?

Really feel for you, I get them too and haven't yet found what the trigger is, ie: types of food, caffiene, eye strain etc. Hope you are better today.x

I really feel for you.
I also suffered migraines regularly but after much internet searching I noticed a link between having a migraine and being bloated.
This led on to a link with a wheat allergy. Since eliminating wheat I've had no migraines.
Something to think about!
Since then I've also read that a yeast allergy mimics a lot of wheat symptoms one of them being headaches.

Hopefully you feel better soon!Smile
