Oral Thrush Advice needed

Lewis is 10 weeks old and had had Thrush for three weeks. So far he had only had it on his tongue. I went to the HV and she prescribed Nystatin. The symptoms seemed to ease for a couple of days and then came back. I went to GP to get a repeat prescription, he showed no interest at all and just wrote another prescription and sent me packing. A week later last week) I went back to GPs as he still had the thrush and had now developed it on his cheek and around his mouth a little. Again I was only given the drops, was told to change my steriliser and was told that if he still had it after then, I must be doing something wrong!! My friend is a HV and we have gone through everything I do and she can find no reason for him still to have it. However, the GP has left me feeling like it is all my fault and that I am a failure. I am trying to get a home visit with my HV tomorrow, although I have a doctor appointment for Lewis on Wednesday morning, although I really don't feel like I want to take him back again. I know there are other remedies available, but my GP would only let me have the Nystatin, even though I knew it would not resolve the thrush around his mouth as its hard to get the drops to stay there. Was wondering whether anyone else had experienced the same sort of thing and felt the same? I know there are mothers out there who have more to deal with than just thrush, but I really do feel like I am letting my little man down.

If you're breastfeeding at all, are you treating yourself too? Probably not as you mention a steriliser but just a thought.

Nope, not breastfeeding. Have changed my steriliser to a microwave steam steriliser which, tbh, is better and quicker, although I seem to be sterilising morning noon and night as they take less bottles. Have stopped giving dummies and am just turning into a completely paranoid mother. My friend thinks the medication is just not strong enough now, so will ask for the gel tomorrow rather than the drops. Do you ever stop feeling paranoid though?? It doesn't seem to be affecting him, if anything its bothering me more than it is him.

My dd2 had oral thrush - she was prescribed the Nystatin drops and the Gp suggested that I use the daktarin oral gel ( on my nipples as I was Breastfeeding) I think the combination of both made the difference. I had to put it on my nipples after each feed to stop the reinfection. You could probably put the gel on his dummy for him to take it that way. Can't remember how much the GP said to give to dd2 - if I could not get the nystatin drops.
