Raised Liver Function tests

Hi there. Just wondered if anyone has any experience of this. I was sent for some blood tests as my periods have been really heavy and I have had headaches and dizzyness. The anaemia was fine but my lft was slightly raised. The gp left a note saying not to worry and they will test in 4-6 weeks which is a little vague. Does anyone know what can cause this?

Can't comment on the symptoms, but with slightly raised/lowered blood test results they tend to test again. This is because the ranges are 2 standard deviations either side of the mean, so they encompass 'normal' for 95% of the population (off the top of my head) but not the other 5%.

Or it can be a false positive test. I know someone who had a white blood cell count, was told they had severe neutropenia and was rushed into hospital. 3 days later, their count was normal range.

Did they do an physical examination of your abdomen at some point?

Did they say if you feel worse/differently worse go back and see them?

thanks for your response. I spoke to the receptionist. The dr hasn't mentioned me going to see him, just to pop in to collect a new form for further blood tests. I think it was only slightly raised so he doesnt seem bothered

I think you need to find out what exactly was raised. They measure at least a dozen of different enzymes/metabolites and they can mean different things, not all of them will be uniformly raised (or not).
My ds had some raised, some defficient.
I always ask for copies of the results so I can digest them at my leisure :)

Hi there, I had a blood test showing raised bilireuben (sp?) which turned out to be a harmless condition called Gilberts Syndrome. I had dizziness, the jitters, sore joints etc and this is all that came back!

I have to have regular checks to ensure the count doesnt stray too high....but I can tell when it does as I feel rough and get a bit jaundiced.

I would ask which liver function was raised and ask for more information.
