Anyone hyperthyroid and NOT having surgery?

Hello - anyone with hyperthyroidism NOT had surgery or Radioactive Iodine(despite doctors' insistence?) Would love to hear from people who are surviving on PTU or carbimazole long term OR who manage their thyroid through other means. thanks

hi, i have had a thyroidectomy (sp?) but i do know someone that has controlled their thyroid through diet - not sure of the details though.
if its any help the surgery was painless and i felt much better almost straight after - but obviously there is the downside of having to take thyroxine forever.

My best mate had the radioactive iodine. It was fine, she had a slight sore throat afterwards, it didn't fix the levels immediately and she had to avoid people for a while (kids and pregnant women for longer). Her specialist has managed to sort her thyroxine dose now to stabilise her levels and she is feeling well.

She said the procedure was painless (obviously), easy and quick. The bonuses over surgery are no scarring and no anaesthetic recovery period.

Why don't you want to treat the problem ?

Have been in carbimazole (40mg/day) for 5 weeks now. I havn't Seen any improvement in my hyper symptoms so far. Also on beta b for the shakes, sweating etc. Am finding day to day activities exhausting but just hope can get sorted in the next few months. Is Graves the cause of yours too?

no - its toxic nodular goitre. Think it's mainly stress related, as have had a pretty bad year. Went to see a naturopath this morning, am going to try the diet/exercise and herbs route. It's worked before.
