thrush in a pre-teen

This is my first post on health. My daughter is 11, nearly 12, and has been diagnosed with vaginal thrush. She has been prescribed difflucan, but liquid rather than a one dose capsule. Has anyone else's pre-teen had this and does it work? Is she likely to feel any side effects? And what can we do to knock it on the head because it's horrible at any age, but to have it this young is not easy.

I've only had thrush when I'm pregnant, but my daughter gets eczema and has had problems with itchy bits when she was younger, which the doc thinks might make her prone to thrush now, especially as she's going through puberty and it looks like her periods will start very shortly. I just want to know the best way to help her.

Thanks.

From my personal experience I get it when I eat too much bread. As soon as I stop eating yeast it goes after a couple of days. She should also eat lots of pro biotic yogurts.

Thanks. Will make adjustments to her diet - we've talked about cutting down on sugar and refined carbs and she's eating yoghurt too now. Any other suggestions anyone?

aww bless her...

wear cotton undies, don't use anything too harsh to wash with...soap can aggrivate in crevices.

Poor girl
I got that as a kid. The best things you can do are to avoid soaps and bubble baths, tight fitting undies and sugar/yeast.

I have heard that spending time with no underwear on is helpful too.

When she does start her periods she may find organic reusable pads helpful as they do not contain the chemicals that disposable pads do and may not irritate her as much.

Hope this helps.
Send her my best

Thanks for that. I've given her the difflucan now, hoping she doesn't get any bad side effects. The organic pads thing is a good idea - she has very sensitive skin - I'll get some in for when she does start.
