Very Painful Coccyx

I've been referred to a physiotherapist for a very painful coccyx.
It's excruciating when I sit and I suspect it is broken or bent. No pain when I'm standing or lying down.
I've seen the Physio twice now, but she has not been able to do anything with it and so is referring me to a physio who deals with womens health after pregnancy.
TBH I've not much faith as I feel they've not been very efficient in their service so far. It's taken 2 hour long appointments just for her to tell me I'm speaking to the wrong person.

Has anyone else had this problem and did Physiotherapy make any difference?

A friend of mine had a painful coccyx years ago and eventually had cortisone injections that sorted it out.

I think this condition is called coccydynia - the cortisone/ local anaesthetic injections sound like a good idea if it's just a question of inflammation and nothing's broken. If the physio is not working, then I would go back to the GP and ask about other options - e.g., referral to hospital specialist, or something else.

Have you tried icing the area, and anti-inflammatories if you can take them?

I had this after my first child was born (c section, but after a long labour with an epidural, so I probably lay in a way which meant I couldn't have felt any damage). I was referred to a doctor who after examination and x ray recommended cortisone injections. However, I went to an osteopath and it was sorted out. 10 months of not being able to sit properly and not being able to lean back in a chair. There was nothing broken, but it was displaced by pregnancy/labour. I have not had any recurrence of the problem and my son is now nearly 14.
