DD just slipped and hit her head - bleeding

DD slipped and hit her head on the corner of a wall. She was easily comforted and we did an alphabet jigsaw together and then she came over to me with blood on her hand. She said - I think my head is bleeding - and it was! She has a big gash...not splurting, just bleeding.
I have called the NHS and am waiting for them to call her back

it should be alright if it is 'just' bleeding and not gushing out, poor love. Give her some calpol and keep an eye on her for an hour

NHS said that I had to check on her every two hours for the next 24hrs and keep her quiet today. She may need it gluing together, but I have no car today and can't get to the drop in center...It's miles away!

Where are you ??

swiperfox · 26/08/2005 10:16

Hiya spagblog - my dd did this not long ago, there was blood everywhere and quite scary and it came out like a golf ball. I went down to the doc just to get her checked over and they said the same thing, keep checing her to make sure she's ok, make sure she doesn't get drowsy or sick. It went down in it's own time and she was fine.

Can you get a neighbour to take you to the centre?

spagblog · 26/08/2005 10:55

Don't know the neighbours , we've only recently moved here (we're in Norwich)
I think we are going to be fine, DD seems okay and DH is going to come home early afternoon.
Why do they always injure themselves when I am looking after them???

has it stopped bleeding spagblog or does it look closed?

spagblog · 26/08/2005 11:00

It's stopped bleeding but the wound is shaped like a skinny almond. I can pull the sides closed which made me think it might need stitches. I am waiting for my surgery to call me back...A tenner says they don't.

If they haven't rung you when your dh gets home just take her straight to the centr or a&e to get her checked over - sounds like they might glue it or put a bittuerfly tape on it - bless her. It's horrid isn't it?!

LIZS · 26/08/2005 11:03

hope you get it soirted out. ds needed his ear gluing as there was no way it would have closed properly on its own. Even so it has scarred. Think you'd be best having it looked at.

SherlockLGJ · 26/08/2005 11:33

I am in Surrey, was going to try and give you a lift

spagblog · 26/08/2005 11:56

LOL! Sherlock.
DD has just stubbed her toe. She remarked "Goodness sake! Now my toe's bleeding, I won't have any blood left"
I think she is fine

Certainly sounds it.

They are funny.

spagblog · 26/08/2005 19:42

We went to the drop in center when Dh got back and she had her head glued back together!
She was very brave and got a sticker saying so. No hair washing for 4 days, she is quite pleased.

glad shes ok, one word of advice if it weeps a bit don't put a tissue on it my father had a cut on his head glued a while back during the night it weeped a bit so he placed a bit of tp on it and went back to bed in the morning it was stuck on and as he wasn't allowed to get the area wet he had to walk around with a small bit stuck on there for a couple of days

MarsLady · 26/08/2005 19:48

DS1 did that. He now has a lovely little scar that is moving towards his eyebrow. Shouldn't be able to see it at all when he's 18.

Head wounds bleed a lot. His head was also glued together. He was given stickers and was very proud of himself.

He also tripped and banged his head on the corner of the wall.

Glad she's okay!

daisy1999 · 26/08/2005 19:51

for the future one tip I learned is always to keep steri strips in the first aid kit (stocked at chemists). Glad she's ok.

Loobie · 26/08/2005 20:43

Head wounds almost always bleed alarmingly because the head has such a rich blood supply for obvious reasons. So Always expect loads of blood from cut heads but it sdoesnt always mean a very serious injury!!

spagblog · 26/08/2005 21:15

Thanks all! There wasn't that much blood really. I was expected more for a head wound, just as well there wasn't as I don't much like seeing the stuff!
