Feeling scared.

For the last few weeks I have had pain in my left breast. it ranges from a dull ache to a stabbing pain. Sometimes I don't notice it at all and other times it bothers me a lot.
Anyway, I have finally plucked up the courage to go to the dr about it this afternoon. I have been checking for lumps constantly for weeks but have so fat felt nothing. I do think however that the left one feels heavier, fuller and definitely more tender. I think my worries are more intense because a close friend has just been diagnosed with breast cancer at 35. I know, really, that the chance of it being anything sinister are quite remote but I need some hand holding please.

There are a lot of reasons for pains in the breast area, most of them quite innocuous. I'm sure the doctor will put your mind at rest if that's the case. If on the other hand it did turn out to be something more serious, then you're still doing the right thing by seeking advice.

AbbyLou, you are definitely doing the right thing by seeing the doctor, well done for plucking up the courage.

If you have been constantly checking for lumps, this in itself may have made your breast sore. If the GP does send you to get it checked out (and they often do - no need to panic) there are loads of us on here who have been through the same experience and will be happy to talk you through it.Smile

I'm very sorry about your friend and I'm sure her DX will have affected you - anxiety is a very normal reaction. I wish her all the best in her recovery.

agree with what KurriKurri has said - best to have it checked to set your mind at rest - chances are it'll be fine!
Do ask if you need any more reassurance Smile

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. I went for the appointment. The dr listened to all I had to say and gave me a very thorough examination. She said as far as is concerned there is nothing at all untoward. She couldn't see any obvious signs and couldn't feel anything either. She gave me two options - either she would refer me to a breast specialist for further tests if I wished or wait for a little while and see if it continues. I decided to go for the second option. She was certain there was nothing there and has set my mind at rest. If it's still niggling away at me in a few weeks I will go back and have the referral.
