Always feel fluey after dental treatment

I always feel like I'm coming down with flu a few hours after most forms of dental treatment, this is either from a simple filling or root canal. As I predicted - I am now aching all over and feeling shivery after having a temporary put on from a cracked tooth, bearing in mind I went to the dentist feeling a million bucks. Has anyone heard of such phenomenon? Had it for years now.

Have you spoken to your dentist about this? He/she may have come across this before and know if anything can be done.

No I haven't, but I will definitely have to have a word.
I've been saving up to have veneers and the treatment will be very lenghthy requiring many appointments.
Any excitement of having a decent smile has now diminished from the memories of feeling ill after treatment.
The flu like symptoms always arrive a few hours after treatment - I'm now wondering if this could be a delayed reaction from the numbing injection? Either way this groggy feeling can last a couple of days, yet tooth is painfree.

There isn't a dentist knocking around on mumsnet by any chance is there?

could it be a reaction to some material they are using? A friend of mine gets an awful sore mouth and sore throat when she has treatment and they think it is that.

ANY opinion you get from a dentist 'knocking around' on MN should not be trusted!!! Your dentist is a medically trained professional who knows your mouth and needs to know any side effects you are experiencing from the treatment provided. The advice of your dentist - and he/she ALONE should be heeded.

Yes, I went to see my medically trained professional dentist today and as I predicted, he said my symptoms are uncommon and had no explanation.
Therefore ElbowFan, some of us use the general health thread wondering if others have shared similar experiences - it doesn't mean we are illiminating a visit to the dentist/doctors, but thankyou for the advice all the same Smile
