hairy and fat what's wrong with me? PCOS or something else?

I have 3+ long black hairs growing out of my face and 5-6 growing out of my neck. Or I did before I plucked them.

They're just getting me down a lot and I have the most horrific treasure trail. No excessive dark forearm or back hair.

I was once told by a nurse that I was 'very hairy' down there but I was going through a non-shaving/trimming phase and I don't think it grows much more than other women's, really.

I am 21 so this is not a menopausal thing!

I am caucasian but have dark hair naturally.

I am not overweight, am a size 12 but have a VERY UNFAIR tendency to put weight on very easily, I am only this size through extreme effort on the part of diet and excercise and all of my friends and family are lithe and limber.

I don't have kids but my mum uses this site and recommmended it to me. So no huge hormonal fluctuations.

I have suffered from depression in the past.

All the symptoms seem to point to PCOS except for the fact that I am very regular with periods.

Does anyone have experience with this? Hirstutism/weight/depression and pcos? or they could all be entirely unrelated.

On the one hand if it is PCOS it can be managed, but on the other I won't be able to have kids.

SOrry for the long and disjointed post but I am feeling very very Sad about this all, I feel so gross and unattractive.

Im not sure tbh but one thing I do know is that PCOS does not mean that you cannot have kids. I have 3/4 friends with PCOS, they all have kids.

Have you spoken to your GP about this? Might be worth making an appointment and getting assessed, always better to know where you stand. And as waiting says, PCOS is not a life sentence of childlessness, not at all.

I have PCOS, regular periods and three DC Smile.

With PCOS you can have some, all or none of the symptoms at any one time, and a year later have a different combination...

It sounds like it could be PCOS, but go to your GP and once they've done some tests, ask for a referral to an endocrinologist (unless you are actively ttc in which case a gynaecologist may be more useful).

Also check out Verity whcih is a PCOS support group.

I have PCOS and have a baby! Best thing to do is to see the doctor and if you have it then you will get help to manage the symptoms. Good luck!

I have pcos, and 3 children.

Get checked out by your doctor, it is very easy to test for.

flibbertigibbert · 09/08/2010 10:45

As others have said - it's very easy to get a test. I went to the doctor because I've had acne for years and was struggling to lose weight. I had a blood test done which revealed high testosterone which is an indicator of PCOS. I was quite surprised as I'd always had regular periods. They are extremely light though. For me, being overweight exacerbates the symptoms - I gained 2 stone whilst studying and suddenly found myself looking like a bearded lady with worse acne than usual.

I have the same. Have just been tested waiting for results.
Get yourslef down the doctors.

I have PCOS, regular periods and 2 DDs. Get yourself to your GP who will probably initially take some blood and refer you for a scan of your ovaries.
