all day every day i'm totally exhausted. For instance, i went to bed at 9 last night woke up at 8 this morning, went out arrived back home at 10 and feel asleep at 11.30 and i've just woke up.

This has been going on for months, i feel so tired some days i can barely move from the couch.

whats wrong with me? I have an apponitment at the doctors today to register, is it worth bringing up?

Whats your diet like?

And how active are you?

If you are not doing alot it could be lethargy?

purplepeony · 06/08/2010 13:41

The main things that can cause this are low thyroid/underactive, or something like ME or post-viral fatigue.

Are you actually sleepy, or just fatigued?

mummysgoingmad · 06/08/2010 13:43

my diets ok i suppose, i eat when ds eats, my ds is 20 months so as you can imagine i try to run about after him all day, but sometimes i get so tired i feel that if i dont lie down i may pass out.

I've had enough of feeling like this its now infringing on where i go and what i do with ds (dont go to far from the house in case i fall asleep on the train, bus home for example)

Yes that does sound quite serious. Let us know what the doctor says.

Do you have a regular sleep pattern? When I was super tired I followed advice about waking up at the same time every day even if I didnt have to. And going to bed at the same time.

Its a massive struggle to stay awake if you're shattered but if youve got out of your pattern its like sleep traing as you would with a child. It helped me.

but you might have an underlying issue like thyroid or something that the doc can help with.

i'm just back from the health center. blood pressure etc fine, so they are going to carry out blood tests on tuesday which means fasting on monday night that doesn't really bother me, it's the no tea with sugar of milk that will kill me! Sad i think id rather drink my own wee than drink plain black tea...yuk!

he said i'm to try graduated exercise, and look up tired all the time on the internet.

He told you to look at the internet Confused

pippop1 · 07/08/2010 16:02

Lack of iron perhaps?

foureleven · 07/08/2010 16:09

i think pippop could be right. Try those orange sachets things... someone help me what are they called? begins with 'S'

surreygirl · 07/08/2010 16:12

Spatone - they are an iron supplement. They are fab, I'm 8 months' pregnant and have discovered them since becoming anaemic. Feeling so much better now...

foureleven · 07/08/2010 16:31

thanks surray girl! Yes, they are fab.

DetectivePotato · 07/08/2010 20:18

I wouldn't try graded exercise without knowing what the problem is. I think thats really bad advice.

Good that you are having the blood tests. I found out I was anaemic when DS was about 20 months. Low iron and folic acid. However as I already have M.E. I didn't even acknowledge that there was something else wrong as the symptoms are so similar.

There are many things that cause similar symptoms. If the blood tests don't pick anything up, don't let it go with your doctor. I had to see 3 doctors before I was taken seriously and eventually diagnosed with M.E.

ppeatfruit · 08/08/2010 10:39

You could also have an intolerance to wheat and or dairy . Google earth clinic.

equinox · 08/08/2010 12:09

Whenever I am tired I take Floradix tablets which are brilliant, not cheap but work a treat. They contain iron and lotsa other goodies.

DetectivePotato · 08/08/2010 12:40

I wouldn't google anything or take anything that works for people on here without knowing what the problem is.

I know people mean well, but to come on and tell them to google (when that will come up with all sorts of illnesses) and to take something that worked for them is slightly irresponsible.

Just wait and see what your doctor says and what the results show up (if anything). Normal blood tests don't always show up everything. I had a chest x ray and saw a neurologoist and a pyschiatrist before I was diagnosed with M.E. My friend is recently going through the same thing and she was referred to a rheumatologist. It can take quite a lot of time to disgnose something, particularly if bloody test don't show anything.

I would suggest keeping a symptom diary to show your doc. Write down what you do, times of day, what you eat when you are tired and any other symptom that you get. It could help them to paint a picture of your daily life see if there is a problem.

BeckyBendyLegs · 08/08/2010 13:22

If it is a thyroid thing other symptoms include: putting on weight / not losing weight despite healthy diet, feeling cold all the time.

Glad you went to the GP - hope they can help you :)

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2010 14:31

No detective.. The earth clinic is a properly indexed site you just look up yr own symptoms and they have a lot of natural remedies for them. Most illnesses are due to food intolerances IMO.

DetectivePotato · 09/08/2010 19:26

I wouldn't be taking natural remedies for something that hasn't been diagnosed by a health professional that any website recommends. And saying that most illnesses are due to food intolerances is a bit of a generalisation.

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2010 21:47

And all health professionals are right are they? And I did say MOST not all illnesses; All would have been a generalisation.

ppeatfruit · 09/08/2010 21:50

IMO the medics still hand out dangerous drugs far too casually (ABs, steroids etc) More people are going to die from pneumonia 'cos everyone's immune to AB's.

DetectivePotato · 10/08/2010 09:16

If you say so. I don't agree and still think a doctor knows far more than any website or people who deal in natural remedies.

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2010 14:45

Detective.. where did the ingredients of the proprietary medicines originate? from nature. They've just been used for 1000s of years so can't be tested and OWNED by the giant pharmacies.

Starman · 10/08/2010 21:47

And back to subject.
Wife constantly tired despite 16 hours sleep per day and she's starting to fret about it. We're at week 32 now and already pleased with the Spatone, and already passed the blood test for diabetes etc. She is also very dizzy at times and surprised everyone when she had to sit down in Sainsburys. We thought it was par for the course but we attended ante-natal class today and all other mums-to-be were all really chipper. It's not diet as all food is fresh and lovingly prepared.
What could we investigate next?

solo · 10/08/2010 21:55

Definitely best to find out from HCP's before taking supplements. If you get answers like 'look at internet', get another opinion.
After that and advice, then think about supplements IMO.

I have ME too, but didn't know what Google meant way back then, so had to wait for official dx.

BoffinMum · 10/08/2010 22:13

Starman, if she feels dizzy it is normally low blood pressure, particularly in the third trimester if the baby is lying awkwardly on a blood vessel or similar. Sitting down and having a glass of water helps, as does the odd cup of coffee, which is the usual time honoured advice given in pg.

Not everyone feels well in pg. I had three easy pg and one bad one, and a lot of it's down to luck IMO.

ppeatfruit · 11/08/2010 09:59

But starman the subject is inexplicable tiredness IMO pregnancy IS an explanation!!
