Ok, then dilute some baking soda in a half glass of water and apply. It really works.

KurriKurri · 04/08/2010 19:06

Have you got any anti histamines, or anti histamine cream?

Have you taken some painkillers?, - it sounds horrible, hornets are monsters.

lexcat · 04/08/2010 19:14

Ok done the baking soda and still sore but much better. Also taken the anti histamines (just in case).

Thanks so much for the tips.

Need help again.

The swelling went right down over night and not much pain.

Been on my feet all day and the bite site was starting to sting again. Just got in and went to the toilet and the swelling is really huge. An oval shape of about 14cm x 8cm and every hot to touch.

I'd see out of hours doc myself. BUt am terrified of hornets, ever since was staying in france and discovered that if you find a hornet/nest in house you have to call the fire brigade for them to deal with them. eek.

whomovedmychocolate · 05/08/2010 18:48

Draw a circle round it. Buy some antihistamines and take them religiously for three days. If you experience shortness of breath go to A&E. Make sure whoever is round you knows you have been stung in case they need to tell medics etc.

It is normal for stings to swell for a few days. However look out for signs of cellulitis

mamaloco · 05/08/2010 18:57

You have to put a heat source close to the sting. as close as you can bear it. works well with a cigarette but if you don't have it a candle will do. The wasp, bee, and hornet venom is heat sensitive and will be destroyed by high temperature. If there is already swelling I think it might be a bit too late but it will still reduce the reaction.

Then follow whomovedmychocolate advice.

whomovedmychocolate · 05/08/2010 19:34

The circle incidentally is to see if it is growing or shrinking, also if you do get gross swelling you will need to be able to point out where the point of injury was, which is not easy if your entire leg swells up and goes lumpy.

lexcat · 07/08/2010 19:33

Spoke to dr and he said take one antihistamine morning and night. That's help in the fact it's taken some of the heat and pain out of my leg.

I've been marking the swelling everday but it's still growing. Slight purple color to the original swelling then goes pink and the new swelling is normal skin color. It's now 28cm x 14 cm.

I would see a doc as you may need antibiotics too.Wasps- and I'm assuming therefore hornets too-creep over all sorts of ghastly dead things/poo etc and they store the bacterial load in their sting to add an extra dimension to the poison....I am allergic to wasp stings, but I also had to have antibiotics last time I was stung as the glands in my groin swelled up and my leg was at high risk of infection.
