Chicken pox and siblings

My daughter, aged 3, is just recovering from chicken pox. Her rash first showed up 9 days ago.I have a son who is 14 months and I was expecting him to get it too but as yet no signs. However, he does have a bit of a cold - runny nose. As I have a bit of a cold too he may just have got this from me.

How likely is it that he will get it. They are in close contact and I was sure he would have it too. It may sound cruel, but in a way I would like him to have it to get it done and dusted.

What experiences have you had?

I think the cold/runny nose is the start of the chicken pox - the spots aren't generally the first sign.

My DD's got them one after the other but there was a period of a couple of days where everyone seemed fine, they weren't it was just prior to the spots showing

Hope they're not too poorly with it

dd3 and ds had this in June / July. Ds got them 14 days after dd3 started. I expect your ds will have them too by the weekend.

Could be the start. It usually takes +/- 2 weeks between infection and symptoms.

exactly 14 days later - DS got it worse spot-wise than DD

also exactly 12 days for my two. runny nose was there first for both. DD1 (3) first, very nasty, DD2 (9mo) very mild.
good luck!

Was 14 days later when rash appeared here, although had a runny nose and vomiting and temperature for few days before. GP said that as DD was under 18 months there was a chance she wouldn't be immune and would catch it again.

The incubation period for chickenpox is 10 to 21 days, so chances are he will get it.

DD#1 had it at 2.5yrs, her sister got it 21 days afterwards (aged 9 months)

It's pretty likely that he'll get it. I'd expect his rash anywhere from 10 to 21 days after your daughter's rash started (it was exactly 14 days between my two).
