All my tests are clear so what is wrong with me?

I am really getting fed up about this. I have been having pains in my arms for quite a while. It hurts when I lie in bed and put my arm on the bed, picking things up can really hurt. I get pains in my fingers too. The other day I was having trouble turning my head and I could feel it pulling and hurting in my neck and shoulder. I am getting headaches and pain above my eye when I try and look down or across. The pain feels in my bones or muscles.

Have you seen an osteopath? SOunds like you might have a back problem with the pain referred to other places.

trainsetter · 02/08/2010 10:59

I saw one a few months ago after having an accident months before and are seeing him again on Thursday. It is just so painful I feel like crying at times.

Try eating a less acid diet eg. cut vinegar, oranges, coffee tea alcohol etc. and also eat fruit on an empty stomach. Google earth clinic for more natural remedies.

What tests are clear, please?

trainsetter · 02/08/2010 20:54

CT, mri, nerve tests.

Sorry, I got sidetracked. Have you had bloods done? Don't know how old you are but Polymyalgia rheumatica is more common the older you are. Stick with yout doc. Keep going back until you get an answer

CarGirl · 02/08/2010 22:11

I get trapped nerves and it hurts like that lots.

LikeGarlicChicken · 02/08/2010 22:16

I think you would get more benefit from paying to see a Rheumatologist privately, than paying an osteopath (in this case). "Natural remedies" have little to commend them other than doing little harm (mostly).

SpeedyGonzalez · 02/08/2010 22:22

Poor you, trainsetter . Can you afford to go to an acupuncturist? They are notoriously good at picking up on conditions which trad medicine doesn't recognise. Make sure you get a recommendation.

I also ditto osteopath (as opposed to a physio). They're brilliant.

If you're in London I can recommend an excellent osteo near Regent's Park.

SpeedyGonzalez · 02/08/2010 22:24

garlic - is your statement from experience of osteopaths, or from hearsay? I wouldn't classify osteopathy alongside naturopathy, it's totally different. DH and I have seen one for years. DH has ongoing back weakness and I had a weird thing in my foot which the osteo understood immediately and sorted out brilliantly.

trainsetter · 03/08/2010 08:56

I am seeing my osteopath no matter what on Thursday as I know he has helped me before after my accident. I also know he will be able to advise me further if he can't help.

I had a pretty comprehensive blood testd done last month or so as I was so tired all the time, more so than just having children, but everything came back fine. TBH the trouble is, my tests always do. My blood pressure in pregnancy was noted as normal when in fact it was high for me as it normally is so low.

My husband suggested seeing an acupuncturist but I was why he thought that would help and I have no idea where I would go to see one.

I have had pain in my arms and hands for a long time now but recently it is every day and is actually getting me down quite a lot as I am scared about what is wrong.

I so appreciate all your support .

I second the thought of Polymyagia Rheumatica . My GP says best test is 48 hours on Prednisalone ....if the pain goes then the diagnosis is confirmed....if the pain stays it's something else.... My MIL was amazed when the pain went so fast her GP was a bit but agreed to try.. I had had previous experience of it with my Mum.

trainsetter · 03/08/2010 09:15

DH googling now. Says rare in people under 50. I am 38. I am seeing a hospital doctor in Feb to discuss my test results and I hope where to go from here but not sure I can cope with the pain until then.

train I am a retired GP. I think osteopaths can be great but I felt that in your particular case a rheumatologist would be better. I agree at your age Polymyalgia is less likely, but there are other causes of muscle pain in the rheumatological field. I am, of course, more in favour of conventional medicine. With the NHS you just have to push, push, push until doctors understand how much pain you are in. Feb. is useless considering your symptoms. Can't you badger your GP (we're used to it!).
I'm so sorry for your suffering.

CarGirl · 03/08/2010 12:45

Your osteo should be able to tell you there and then if you have trapped nerves, but actually to have it so severely in both arms does make it seem unlikely

zazen · 03/08/2010 13:04

Have you tried stretching? really stretching your arms and hands?

I used to get a very bad pain along my arm, into my elbow and along my wrist, and it was from the nerves shortening.

Once I started gentle yoga the pain subsided.

Good luck to you.

trainsetter · 03/08/2010 13:26

Another GP had agreed to send me to a rheumotologist after I had seen a neurologist so I will try and see him. I crick my left arm a lot and driving dd home today my right arm went, like the bone snapped, and it was painful. I can't even lie on my arm.

trainsetter · 03/08/2010 13:26

I have also been tested for crushed nerves in my elbows but nothing.

So garlic do you think a high acid diet contributes to arthritisy pains? I know its true eg my DS felt her knees improve as soon as she stopped eating oranges after a meal.

ppeatfruit · 05/08/2010 08:44

Also "natural remedies" are amazing eg. my DH (who ignores me about acid!!) is CURED of his pains by echinacea it's brill for swelling. And we're not cranks.
