Alcohol intolerant

Anyone else, 3 glasses of wine - feel sick and horrible and this morning feel as though I was on a bender last night!...so tired.

I think this started years ago. But I'm ok with 2 glasses, which is nice on the weekend but anymore and the weekend is over.

Thinking of becoming tea-total.

How does everyone else manage especially on party nights. Stood there in a loud bar with a coke.

Goes to prove really how reliant on alcohol we are for a good time. Obviously it has benefits but at the end of the week its nice to chill with a bottle of wine.

I'd like to here from others who just cant drink.

I can feel half a glass of wine. My husband and sons can only take about 1 glass before they get to feel v tired/stupid and daft. It maybe because I only drink any alcohol about once a month so I have never got used to it.

I love the taste of alcohol but don't like the effects. If I could buy the same tasting drinks without the alcohol in them I would drink them all the time.

And you think you are strange?

Who's to know what's in your coke? Could be rum too, and water could be vodka. Your orange could have gin in it or might be just orange. Does anyone really care? Drink what suits you and don't worry about being "cool" for goodness sake. At least you know when you meet someone you will have your judgement intact.

My brother is alcohol intolerant I think. After about 1 pint his face just changes to a red, very flushed colour and he always gets drunk really quickly. He doesn't drink that often. I think for him its because he (and I) are half-Malaysian Chinese. And I heard that there's an enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase? which is missing or reduced in people of chinese lineage. (Must've bypassed me though cos I don't have it....the wonders of genetics! ). Maybe its something like that with you....which as you've got older its kicked in more?

Actually, I'm Jewish and I was once told that Jewish people don't have the right genes to process alcohol properly. I don't know if that's true but my husband (also Jewish) gets a red patch under his eye after a drink. It lasts for hours.

Have you tried other drinks?
Sometimes things mixed with tonic etc are easier
or wine spritzers

I knew an Asian (American with Japanese parents) guy who couldn't tolerate alcohol at all.

DH has gotten less and less tolerant. At NYE he had three cans of lager and puked. Then, last month, he had 3 pints and was sick.

When we go to pubs, we play pool and darts instead of drinking alcohol - just order soft drinks.

And to chill, have a soak in the bath or make a smoothie.

I got DH a SodaStream for his bday so we can make tasty drinks.

I'm virtually tee-total as the pleasure from drinking even a very moderate amount is fleeting compared with subsequent 2-3 day hangover. I can tolerate the occasional weak lager shandy and some specific spirits, not many, but certainly not wine, hops, vodka or gin. Dh says it's my Japanese genes (I haven't any afaik).

My vices lie in other directions.
