Well I just had a fun afternoon.

DD sitting on the sofa, sudden SCREAM. She has stuck a damn bead from a bracelet that just broke up her nose. About the size of a kidney bean. And I mean right up, I got the torch and could just see the tip stuck right up that nostril. Tried to get her to blow the damn thing out, but the poor thing was hysterical, screaming about how much it hurt.

So DD, DH and I pile into a minicab...get to the hospital. The triage nurse tells me that they will have to get extra people to hold DD down to get the damn thing out, but she'll try something else first just in case. So the nurse tells DD that she has a magic tissue and to try blowing. What comes flying out?????

&?@@$$%!!!!

So that was a fun afternoon and now we are broke for the rest of the week from the fares. But at least DD is ok.

So what does you child like sticking up their nose???

My brother - peanut. The middle of his nose is wonky now.

pie · 24/07/2003 18:24

Coddy, why is his nose wonky, did they have to break it to get it out or something?

dunno if you look up his nose the central bit is slighlty skewed to one side. He was little at the time. Years later ewhen I was about 14 we were waititng for an ENT consultation for me and Mum said - "look! Theres the doctor who removed the peanut from Richards nose!"

I think the peanut incident was circa 1970!

My mom has a great story about my sister when she was little. It seems she got more and more stinky and my mom and dad couldn't figure out what it was. Eventually (and this is after a great while, knowing my parents) my mom took her to the doctor. My sister had shoved a cosmetic sponge up her nose. Blergh. But ever so funny to hear it now (unfortunately, I'm not a story teller so those are the basics).

My ds (at the timwe aged 4 and a bit) decided to stick a sweetie up his nose once. It got really stuck - we could see it but couldn't get hold of it with tweezers. So off to casualty we trot.

Sat there for over an hour, and just as we were called in to see the Dr my son gave a huge sniff and said "Oh, Mummy, it's OK - it's gone into my tummy now!"

Waste of blooming time that was too - and what a thing to do! You watch them like a hawk with small things when they are little, but they never think of doing anything untoward, but just as you think it is safe to relax a bit, they are not so young and stupid any more.... sigh

The only thing DS1 has stuck up his nose is his finger. So far.

I remember my brother sticking a tictac up his nose when he was about two. The most hopeless shape to try and get hold of and pull out, as you can imagine. So they pushed it up further until he swallowed it.

He also put one of those 2x1 pieces of lego up his nose but that was retrieved with tweezers...

my daughter decided to put toothpaste in her ear. came in very proudly and told me she had brushed her teeth. she was just about 3 at the time. i was a naughty mummy, i just couldnt stop laughing as we trotted off to a+e. as she used kids toothpaste for this incident her ears didnt need flushing, apparently the adults toothpaste can cause more problems if kids decide to clean their ears with them

My grandmother told me that when my dad started talking he called his nose a 'peepo'. It was only when he got ill and smelly that the doctor discovered that he had stuck a small peapod up his nose and had been trying to ask for help!

linzoid · 28/07/2003 21:50

my ds once stuck one of his sugar puffs right up his nose!

Sosijsmum · 28/07/2003 21:57

Stones from the carpark at Alton Towers. I would have been about 3, so my 2 older sisters got a nice day out to casualty. They've never let me forget it these past 30 years

I remember when I was about 8 years old I had the "brainwave" of saving my spoggy (chewing gum to non-northerners) behind my ear so I could drain any last bit of flavour out of it after tea-time, as it was a real treat to have at this age. Trouble was I had long thick hair and it had to get painfully cut out by my Mum...ouch, I still remember...
