strange question about my mothers bottom

Myself and district nurse looked at my mothers bottom today .
My mother was standing up .
The left buttock looked like a bag partly filled with water ,ok size at top but big at the bottom . Totally different from other buttock.
What could this be ?
Mother is 90 ,had op on broken top of femur about 6 weeks ago ( same side as baggy buttock ) ,recent fall but xrays clear .
Mother sitting very gingerly .
Anyone any ideas about this ,or know if I should be worried .
( You did all correctly diagnose fracture ,when GP insisting pulled muscle .)

Could it be some sort of fluid leak from the top of her femur/hip joint? What did the DN think it might be? I don't really know - hopefully someone who does will come along soon. But I think I'd get the GP out tomorrow since it's causing her pain.

If it is in the same area as she had the surgery 6 weeks age, could it be swelling or other effects from the surgery?

Oh dear I just don't know .
She has congestive heart failure and at moment they are trying to optomise her dose of diuertics .
So maybe some fluid retention related thing .
She has had 3 falls recently ,only back from hospital this week .
She does say that she can't lift the leg on this side as much as she used to .
But I'm anxious that this won't have been spotted - I imagine not noticeable if examined lying down .
Mum very bad at describing ailments .She was very distressed in hospital and not co operating .
When asked if she had any aches or pains she screeched " I hurt all the way from the tip of ,my toes up through my legs to my scalp ." ( I don't think she did ).
Mother told DN that it ( funny looking buttock ) was " a muscle " and that she'd always had it .
But I honestly can't see how she'd know what her 2 buttocks look like ,she has really bad sight and poor mobility .
I think she ( mother ) saying " I've always had it " is a calculated reply designed to head off any more investigation ,admission to hospital.

Forgot to add " And who can blame her ."

Who can blame her indeed violetqueen? I sympathise, my 90 year old dad is very opposed to any medical intervention, he has been poked and prodded so much.

It definitely sounds like some sort of fluid retention. I had fluid problems breast surgery, and the closest I can describe it is the area feeling like a hot water bottle - sort of wobbly to the touch.

Does she sit a lot? - My father has a kind of pressure cushion to prevent sores, - which is helpful. I hope you manage to find the solution soon
