I have been doing it for a long time and it's ruining my teeth - dentist suggests mouthgard, but I won't wear that - this much I know.
has anyone had any success with other treatments?

I grind too during the day so cant wear a mouthguard and my dentist seems to struggle with the concept of someone grinding during the day. Am sick of it - makes my head hurt and is screwing my teeth.

SirBoobAlot · 26/07/2010 17:44

Why wouldn't you wear it?

coventgarden · 26/07/2010 17:44

DD has done this and says I do too. I can't afford a moouthguard at the moment. Nothing else you can do apart from completely destress your life.

keep thinking of hanibal lecter.
Silly, I know.
Besides, the pressure will be still there, so teeth might get worn down less, but tension in the jaw will stay.

i never actually have coffee late in the afternoon.
So you did find it easy to get used to the guard? How long have you had it?

Night time.
Dentist suggested sugar- free chewing gum during the day to tire the muscles out.

Wearing the mouthguard at night made a big difference to the pain I get in my jaw - putting it in & out is a bit gaggy but once in it's fine. Needs to be an excellent fit though.

I also grind during the day (to tunes in my head mostly - other people tap their feet or fingers, I grind my teeth!) but it's the night grinding which does the real damage - give it a go, coffee

Had mine two weeks now - was weird the first night, now find its really helping.

mizu · 26/07/2010 18:25

DH just got back from dentist saying he is going to have a mouth guard. Thought his check up was going to cost £15 and it cost £45!!!!! Hope it helps as he keeps me awake sometimes grinding his bloody teeth.

I used to have a mouth guard when I was younger but used to wake up in the morning with it at the bottom of the bed.

coffeeinbed · 26/07/2010 18:26

What's with everybody having them fitted in the last few weeks?
must be something in the water.

Does no one else grind during the day

coffeeinbed · 26/07/2010 19:29

Well, I don't, strictly speaking, but apparently I'm a heavy biter and chewer.
Food only!
