Is this normal for a hospital?

Quick question - DH's Granny is frail with some dementia. She had a collapse and an ambulance took her to a major London teaching hospital. She was kept in overnight. When she was released the next morning to DH's Grandpa's care he found that she had a huge bruise across her forehead (from 'an accident using the toilet' - she is always helped to go to the loo at home). When he got her home he found they had forgotten to take the canula out of her hand. Is this normal hospital care? I'm not sure whether to be shocked or not. Thanks!

I would phone the hospital and complain. I dont think that this is acceptable. Is the cannula still there?

Thanks. No the canula has been removed but I was very sad to hear the story. DH Grandpa was very accepting of the situtation but I am thinking of suggesting making a complaint so this doesn't happen to anyone else's beloved granny.

Complain , in writing .
You want procedures in place to try and prevent this happening again .

call the PALs office at the hospital and get the name of the person to complain to. Not on at all. Hope she's ok.
