something bit me while in the local country park yesterday, as we walked around the lake! I think it was a bee - I pulled out what I think was a sting, it was a little inflamed at the time and very sore. I carried on with our afternoon and bathed it vinegar when we got home.

Unfortunately, I don't know very much more than that... except it is still very sore, itchy, and I have noticed my hand is more swollen than the other.

What can I do? Am I likely to have got all of the sting out? I am on my own with two dds so don't want to take anti-histamine / get drowsy!

You can get non-drowsy antihistamines over the counter and that's probably a good initial measure. Paracetamol as well. Sore, itchy and swollen is a fairly normal reaction for a sting/bite. If the pain increases, if the swelling becomes worse and if you feel sick or lightheaded then see your doctor.

thanks Chil, so far no symptoms - other than still slightly swollen and itchy. The pain seems to have stopped? I didn't know stings could last so long!!

I was bitten on the thigh by some critter on holiday last year. It started as a red dot but, after a few days, the swollen circle around it was the diameter of a tennis ball. Didn't hurt at that stage but they do take quite a while to go away. Calamine lotion for the itching, perhaps....
