Acute insomnia - a week in..

Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in 'Sleep' but that seems to be for babies, so here I am.

Have never been a good sleeper and have suffered bouts of both chronic and acute insomnia my entire life. However, for the past week (I think, could be longer, I can no longer calculate anything!) I have basically lost the ability to sleep at all. I have a 18 week old baby who sleeps better than I do. Last night was a typical example:

11.30pm - dream feed baby, he goes back to sleep, I go to bed
2.30am - still unable to get to sleep, I make myself a milky drink, finally conking out afterwards
4.30am - wake up, try to get back to sleep
5.30am - baby wakes for early morning feed and goes back to sleep. I manage to drift off again 30 mins later
7.30am - wake up again for baby's morning feed. DH takes baby downstairs afterwards so I can sleep for another couple of hours.

I am shattered but I just seem to have lost the ability to just GO TO SLEEP. I am breastfeeding and so any kind of sleeping pill is verboten (not that I could be conked out with a baby to nightfeed anyway).

Not sure what advice I'm asking for really... I'm wondering whether it could be my hormones gradully regulating after the birth?

Try strong camomile tea; it's good for LOs as well. I take a camomile supplement (I buy it in France though) it's amazing for sleep. Good luck.

You could also try a kelp magnesium supplement.
