Endometrial Ablation

Has anyone had this done - womb lining removed due to really heavy periods? I have had the consultation and have thought hard about it for a month and have decided to go ahead.

Any experiences? Does it work well? Also what contraception did you use after as I currently have a copper coil in and have been told that I can't have a coil in after the operation.

Thanks

I am hoping to have more energy after the operation as I get so tired the week before and during my period I look so pale for a few days.

My concerns about my femininity are largely due to being a long-time single mum; not had a date for well over 4 years and been single for a decade, so I know I'm not attractive in my current state.

I realise the op won't change me outwardly and I can't wait to stop having such a crap time with my period every month, but somehow knowing I'll not have a womb that could work, is making me question even more how anyone could possibly ever find me attractive.

I do so hope the hope is successful though as I hate having to take spare clothes out with me, the emotional overload just before I bleed, and the pains!

without sorry to be so flippant in my reply.

I can honestly say I was concerned about feeling useless as a female, but like I say because hormonally and symptoms such as heavy boobs etc I sometimes think oh god it's not working - and then the spotting is my period and I'm like how fantastic is that

Pain - I was strongly told by the consultant pain would not be sorted by this procedure, and although it's only one day and not 3 days a month now for me, I would say he's right the pain intensity has not changed, but due to not bleeding and therefore not being so stressed and low I find that I am in a lot better position to cope with the pain.

I had the same warning re: 'grieving for my lost fertility' - but honestly I feel fab! I'm so glowing and vibrant now (if I say so myself!!) instead of being dragged down by the burden of irregular flooding period with bleeding in between.

I still have a normal hormonal cycle with a certain amount of period pain but the sheer BLISS of such light bleeding is just fabulous.

But I wanna baby dh even told me how he's considered having one more a few times because it would make me very happy.

How blessed am I that I have a dh to even consider it, probably why I'm happy to be sterlised and save him from the snip (he's sh*t scared of having it done)

You sound rather unsure. You can't possibly have a baby after EA - even if you got pregnant the risks to mother and baby ar unacceptable.

Pregnancy/bfing would obviously stop periods - then you could have EA afterwards.

I think you need to have a good old heart to heart with your dh before you do this.

We had the discussion before have dc 4 that it would be the last and I wasn't going to ask to have anymore - dh didn't want kids!

The yearning I had before having dc4 hasn't returned, but this is very final but it has to be done - I can't keep having babies forever for my "urges"!!!!

If I had got one with the mirena coil it would have been fantastic as I could have waited til I was mid 40s.

There'll be tears from me but that's okay I have 4 wonderful daughters and fast approaching 40, hopefully I'll be granny one day not too soon.

Crumbs! Yes well I guess a 5th might be a bit extreme as a cure for dodgy periods!

CarGirl · 29/07/2010 23:34

Well I've got 3 months in which I could have a very shocking accident but only 1% of me would be happy about it, the rest of me would be
