Evening all, never posted on here so here goes.
Have a had a lump at the bottom of my throat for over a month now and have been silly and not gone to the Docs about it till yesterday and am now bricking it!!

I am also 6 months pregnant, and she mentioned it might related to that, that levels can be normal but a lump appears. Blood tests tomorrow and referral coming to hospital for ultrasound and possible biopsy...

Never really been ill or had tests so am a little scared but hoping it related to pregnancy and nothing more.

Might explain my tiredness, anxiety and other general rubbish feelings over the last number years.

Thanks x

Hi theparrs.

It sounds as though the GP may suspect you have a goitre which can develop if your thyroid is very underactive. I had this post DD1's birth and it went away once I was on thyroxine.

I did indeed feel tired/anxious/rubbish but overlooked it for a while as you expect to feel like that when pregnant/with a small baby!

Yes, pregnancy can mess with your levels so the GP will need to interpret your blood results outside of the usual "normal" levels and will hopefully refer you promptly to a specialist endocrinologist if he/she suspects a thyroid issue.

I believe you can also get nodules on your thyroid which is probably what the ultrasound is looking for.

Try not to worry (stay away from google if possible!). I'm sure it will be fine and hopefully you will feel a lot better soon.

Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy

agree with crapweasel, it could be goitre or nodules (they usually feel with hands for goitre and do ultrasound for nodules).
I have had various thyroid problems for years and the best advice i can give is tell your gp you want to see an endocrinologist (sp?) my gp's have all been lovely over the years but none of them understood how to read the results/treat the problem like an endocrinologist
