Are there any dentists out there?

Went to the (American) dentist today, but came out utterly confused.

Feels like I have a swollen gland (like when you have a sore throat), but located at the edge of my gum/top of mouth. That wisdom tooth has been taken out, so it was not a tooth complaint, just feels like a gum infection.

Before he looked at me, he had decided it was stress related and that I had been grinding/clenching my teeth in the night. DH says this is not the case. Stress as I have a four month LO, just moved countries and started a new job. He established there was nothing wrong with my teeth and that it wasn't the jaw joint he previously thought.

I think he concluded that it a was a pulled muscle? That it had been triggered by stress but was related to my asthma and sleep apnoea (sp?). He then was going on about referring me to someone to sort out sleep (get more oxygen in my sleep).

This all seems a bit ott to me, was wondering if it's just the American system of everyone going out of their way to help (translated to extra money). He tried ringing people but apparently no one works on a Wednesday afternoon, so just gave me someones number to call.

As I left he muttered just to take some painkillers (but not anti inflammatories as this effects my asthma).

Should I go with my gut and just see how I get on after a few days? I'm not even sure whats wrong, except that it hurts.

It sounds like an abscess, you may be better off popping to A&E so they can take an x-ray (called an OPG)
