Aloe vera gel. The stuff you slop on your skin when you have a sunburn.

Especially the cooling kind that has a little menthol in it, and if you luck into finding Solarcaine Aloe Vera Gel with lidocaine in it, well, happy bum!!

Just put some on loo roll. Loads better than baby wipes or wet toilet paper.

It's water soluble so no oily residue like cream or baby oil, kind to your skin, glides easily (very very important for an ouchy bottom) and not expensive. And soooooooooooooothing...

There, I just had to share, because I know I'm not the only one who cried after the first bowel movement post-birth, and my h'roids and other bum issues have made me cry plenty.

I have just been dealing with the fallout from a big allergic reaction to alloe vera toilet paper. Be very careful what you put near your nether region, is my advice.

Can I butt in and enquire about piles (no pun intended!)

I'm 41+ weeks pregnant with DC3 and was doing great with no piles until a few days ago. I am now very uncomfortable!

I use witch hazel to wipe after a bowel movement and an over the counter pile remedy which for now both of which combined are effective...BUT...

....My real panic is what happens to piles in labour?

Do they burst? Get worse?

I am due to be induced at the weekend and I think I am more worried about exploding piles than labour itself!

My MIL sells aloe vera products (it's like an avon thing) so the house if full of the stuff...it really does work for all kinds of soothing things - if you can put up with the horrendous stinging for a few minutes.

I think that might be how it actually works you know - it makes the pain 100 times worse as soon as you put it on so it feels much better afterwards.

My aloe gel doesn't sting at all. Maybe it's the menthol in it? It's so soothing IMO.

My mum grows her own aloe vera plants for her eczema - no cost at all, and it doesn't sting at all when you put the gel on.
