Symptomatic Atrial Fibrillation?

PussinJimmyChoos · 21/07/2010 20:36

DH is seeing cardio consultant tomorrow for periods of symtomatic atrial fibrillation.

Has anyone else or anyone they know experienced this? If so, did it cause tiredness etc?

Dh doesn't have many attacks but when he does, it tends to be triggered by tiredness and stress

DH has a stressful job and he is tired all the time. They have done blood tests, thyroids etc and all normal. Not diabetic either.

I personally think a lot of his tiredness is down to his love of carbs and sugar. I've told him that if he cuts this down, he will see an improvement in energy levels as I used to have the same problem until I went low Gi and the difference was amazing. However its hard going trying to tame his sweet tooth!

Help!

Puss try this site it is a NHS quality approved site. Sounds like paroxysmal AF. I think you may be right about him trying the low GI diet.

Could be. But a diet high in carbs and fat can also cause tiredness. As can stress. The three together is putting him at greater risk and he really needs to think about his lifestyle.

Good luck tomorrow.

I have had this in the past. alcohol and stress have been the main culprits for me. Hope it all goes well tomorrow

I get paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. For me, too, it's caused by too much stress over too long a period. During an attack I do feel very tired and light-headed. Afterwards I have felt tired and washed out for a day or two, particularly if it has been an attack that's lasted for some hours. In between attacks, though, there's no symptoms.

Since being diagnosed with this I've been prescribed Flecainide tablets. If I have an attack then I take a tablet and it usually stops within half an hour. If not, I take another tablet. If it's still not stopped after all that then I'm supposed to go to A&E (although it's never got that far).

I took being diagnosed with this as clear evidence that I was under way too much stress. If the stress levels are making you physically ill, then it's too much. Is there any chance your DH could alter his job to reduce the stress?

Incidentally, a lot of stress can also trigger depression which can cause feelings of tiredness.

I get this, stress is the main culprit, although sugary drinks also make it worse. The only thing that really made a difference was exercising regularly (45 min walk every day) and I only get 2 or 3 attacks a month now.
