Loop excision tomorrow - bricking it

Hi all

I'm a regular but have decided to name change for this.

About a year ago I had an abnormal smear (moderate dyskaryosis) and I was sent for a colposcopy. I was given the choice of having the treatment there and then, or going back in a few weeks. I chose to go back in a few weeks as it was my 30th birthday the following day and didn't want to ruin it.

As it turns out the biopsy came back with only mild changes so the gynae said it was ok to leave for 6 months.

After the 6 months were up I went back for a repeat smear and biopsy, and the results came back as moderate again so I am having loop excision tomorrow.

There are a few things that are bothering me.

First of all, when I had the last biopsy, I seemed to bleed quite a bit more than I had the first time, so I am concerned about the possibility of heavy bleeding after the loop.

Secondly, I have a very active and heavy toddler, so I am worried about lifting him - I think I read somewhere that you are not meant to do any heavy lifting? I don't have anyone to help except DH - will he need to take the following day off to help?

I'm obviously worrying about the results too.

If anyone has any experience or advice it would be greatly appreciated .

I had this done about 6 years ago. My own experience was that it didn't actually hurt at all, - local anaesthetic applied, and I don't really recall any abnormal bleeding. Iw as terrified for ages beforehand, but it all went smoothly. The results were fine and I have just had to have annual smears since then. I recal lying down for the rest of the day and taking it 'easy' for the next day but as far as I can remember I went back to work on day 3.
I would suggest your dh does take the next day off as you will want to relax just for your own peace of mind.

I hope this helps a bit.

hi, try not to worry, i think the name of the method makes it sound weirder than it actually is. i have had this done a couple of years ago and now have a yearly smear. i remember having a local anasthetic (i remember how it made my heart race briefly) but all in all it didn;t take long and i just lay there with my legs in styrups for a short while. took it easy for a day after but then felt normal after that, think i wore a pad' for a few days as bled a bit which was normal. then had a repeat smear six months later, try not to worry, it is i thought a simple straight forward procedure, good luck

hope it went ok for you, I had this done in november 2009, I didnt bleed after for about 4-5 days, it was very light, it was more a cleary water stuff with a bloodish tint that I had for about 6 weeks after. Was supposed to last around 4 weeks but I resumed my gym routine after a week when they advise u to not do anything for 4 weeks (I went to alton towers the day after!!)
