I constantly have thrush.

I just had treatment about 2 weeks ago (pessery and external cream)

I just stad usinf condoms so they ma be the culrit this time or possibly tampons?!
Anyways I'm now very uncmftable and its come on very quickly and as a result of not knowing I was about to have a flare up AGAIN, DH now has oral thrush

I am so sick of this.

DH is allergic to canestan and daktarin too so its awkward for us to get rid of it as a couple.

I find that the pessary/cream irritates me - I only take the tablets now. Avoid sweet stuff

cornsilked · 18/07/2010 15:28

and see your GP

Have you tried cutting down on sugars and taking acidophilus capsules? I was always prone to thrush after I started on the pill, but after many years, inc. trying the very strict anti-candida diet, I noticed sugary food sets me off, even very sweet fruit. And white wine.
Also, the systemic treatment - Fluoconazole tablet - cleared my system better than the external types.
Thrush is grim - I recently had it again in pg and was at my wits' end til the pessary worked.

Hmm, thats interesting, I have a very sweet diet

I've just been to docs about it. Got the fluconol wotsitt tablet, caneston had not worked. Only wear purecotton knickers is the tip I got. Make sure your dp is treated properly or he will give it back to you when you have sex.

I've no idea why - there seems to be no 'cure' for thrush, and because it's not exactly fatal (except maybe to those around you when you're in the throes of The Itch), GPs, etc, don't devote much time to it (at least, that's been my experience).

I think the theory is that it's a fungus that lives harmlessly in some bodies but gets out of control in others. It feeds on sugars, so by denying it, your symptoms improve. Stress never helped me, either. I blasted it with capsules then just ate nice Yeo Valley live yoghurt once a day.

You might need to be tested for diabetes too as im sure that recurrent bouts can be a symptom of thrush.

mrsgordonfreeman · 18/07/2010 15:49

I found mine cleared up completely, after niggling on and off for years (and almost constantly during pregnancy) when I was given a week's course of fluconazole to clear up nipple thrush.

I don't hold with all that ditching sugar or yeast palaver: I struggle to see how eating dead yeast in bread etc. could set off thrush in your mimsy. It's not even the same species of yeast, for instance. As for sugar: you're not a home brew kit and all your food ends up as glucose in your blood anyway.

Very happy not to have it anymore, anyway. Good luck in whatever you try.
