My daughter frequently gets conjunctivitis, she is at nursery and its rife, 10 ten days after her last lot I got it

So here I am two weeks later and I've still bloody got it, this is what I've had so far for it:

Chloramaphenical eye drops (no difference)
Fucithalmic ointment
Chloramaphenical ointment (worked came back after two days)
Brolene

I wear contact lenses, haven't done for two weeks now and went to the opitician yesterday to make sure it wasn't them or something else? Everything is fine, she thinks it just a bad case of conjunctivitis? I've been to the doctor twice for different stuff, I mentioned hayfever she said the season was established so it couldn't be, but I'm at my wits end now. They are very red and sore, crusty in the morning, I bathe them and have put the treatment in, yet its till here?

So has anyone any ideas or something else to do or what else it could be?

Its probably viral and can takes ages to clear up - there's no treatment. Your eyes can also be very dry for several weeks to months afterwards.
Its really important you throw away your current lenses and case, any eye make up you've used and wash any towels on 60.
You can use occular lubricants for the dryness - something like blink, hypromellose.

Thanks Karol, the optician asked if I was at a low ebb at the moment and said it could be viral ... and there is no treatment! I have been stressed, I've got ear ache and a sore throat, so looks like I've just got to put up with it!

I've done the towels on an 80 wash, changed pillowcases several times and wear daily disposables!

The vast majority of viral conjunctivitis will burn itself out in 2 weeks.
This is related to the duration of viral shedding.

There are exceptions but they tend to be the serious ones and they would be obvious if anyone looked at it.

Obviously,as you are still nursing more systemic symptoms it's possible your body is taking longer to clear it than normal.

In addition, crusty doesn't fit with viral discharge, which tends to the watery.
Also, viral (with the exception of the enterovirus) tends not to produce a very red eye.

Crusty might be bacterial (but again it would most likely have burnt itself out right now).

Crusty and red (espeically at the edge of the lids) and worse in the morning sounds more like blepharitis, and inflammation (and sometimes oppurtunistic infection) of the lid margins.

But there is enough overlap of your symptoms, reported signs and history to make online diagnosis difficult.

Try washing yr eyes every morning with one drop of tea tree oil mixed with tablspoon of filtered room temp. water. it's very effective against bacterial and viral problems.

Also look at yr. diet I find if I eat dairy i get "sticky eyes". It's "cos I don't usually eat it so can monitor my reactions.
