Im suffering from thrombosed piles - there I've said it! Embarassing though it is its also really painful & I'm off on my holidays before I go to my hospital appointment for it. Can anyone offer any advice on getting rid/relieveing pain? sob

I had that when pregnant - it is agony. You are waiting for the body to break down the blood clot in the vein so nothing will speed that up.
Try resting with hips higher than heart (on pillow) rather than sitting. Ice pack (well covered) various creams which will reduce inflammation and irritation. Make sure not constipated/too loose diet wise.

It does end but a nightmare when youve got them

Thanks. Will try the hips higher than heart as have been using ice and creams to no avail. How long does the clot take to go? - I've been like this for about 10 days now . Was also wondering about asprin as people take them to thin blood.

I would hope after 10 days you would show some improvement, but 2-3 weeks may be more realistic. I would not take asprin because the reason the clot formed is the blood stagnated in the varicose vein because it got 'trapped' there by the anal sphincter (the muscle around the bum hole) Sorry bit graphic!! Asprin would only affect the circulating blood so no good for the clot disolving. A doctor ? your gp if they are surgically trained can do a small nick in the vein and extract the clot - this gets rid of it immediately - dont know if many GPs have the facility but its a tiny procedure and most leave it to disolve in its own time. If it is still there in a few days go back and see if it can be done. If you get referred to the hospital, it will def be gone by the time the appointment comes through.

Avoid hot baths - these dilate the vessels and increase blood supply - something you dont want. Can you gently ease the grape back inside, the less 'pinched' it is the more comfortable?

went to "walk in centre" nearly in tears this morning as is so painful & they just prescribed me some over the counter cream which it is cheaper to buy & told me to take warm baths which like you say would only make it worse. All this after making me sit on a wooden bench in the waiting room for an hour! I wish my GP could do that proceedure it sounds like a blessed relief.

I found that if I eased it back up and it stayed there it was not uncomfortable. But when hanging outside (prolapsed) it was agony. Even my lady GP said with feeling "Oh you poor thing". Thank heavens have never had it again - it was a rubbish pregnancy thing! Have you tried Anbesol Adult Strength Gel, it is for mouth ulcers so suitable in delicate areas and contains a local anaesthetic - may be a little numbing of the area would help. Doesnt help the dragging ache though!
