Vuvuzela problems!

Hi there fellow mumnsnetters. I have a wee problem (no pun intended, honest!) and was wanting to hear of other mums' experiences.

Since having my ds 6 months ago, I've had problems with SUI (stress urinary incontinence for the uninitiated!). It was an emergency forceps delivery & it destroyed me physically I can't cough or sneeze without leaking, and I can't run either (one of my favourite pastimes!). So I have been referred to a gynaecologist who I'm hoping will be able to put my fanjo back together again. Does anyone have any experience on surgery for this & how successful it is??

Hello. I had a similar problem. I ended up being really depressed about it and they offered me a TVT. This is putting a mesh strap under the neck of the bladder I think. It's done without cutting (if you know what I mean) while you're awake and is slightly painful (or quite a lot painful in my case, but not on a par with childbirth). I was also a bit unlucky in that I had to have a catheter afterwards - for a few weeks. But having said that, it has solved the problem. It doesn't put you back to before childbirth, but basically if you go to the toilet every 3 hours or so, you won't have a problem. Certainly no problem with sneezing or coughing or running. You sort of have to concentrate to wee and it trickles out (sorry to be so graphic). But it is a great improvement to me - I no longer have "pads" in the house at all. I'm not sure how TVT's are long -term - might be worth investigating further for you but could be an option.

Thanks for your reply muffint. Gosh, sounds like you're going from one extreme to the other with that! But I guess a trickle is better than peeing yourself!

Have had a bit of a look at the research and you're right, not a lot about the long-term results for TVTs. Have also read about the use of adult muscle-derived stem cells which sounds promising, but looks like it's not available yet

sigh It seems I'll not be running anyway until I've 'completed my family' (or face having a CS).
