TTC but may soon need minor surgery?

I really want to try for another baby (DD nearly 2 and ideally would want a gap of less than 2 years).

However, I have an ongoing knee injury, I'm supposed to be starting physio soon, and if that doesn't work I will need minor surgery. I have no idea how quickly that would happen, but I would assume there might be a fairly long wait as it's not urgent.

So, am I right in thinking that it's a bad idea to go under general anaesthetic while pregnant- and that they would try to avoid this if possible?

At the moment I feel like coming off the pill is not an option, because
1)It won't be much fun having a knee problem while heavily pregnant and
2)They won't want to operate if I'm pregnant.

Not sure if I'm being realistic or overly cautious, so would be grateful for any opinions.

They tend to avoid GAs in pregnancy for non-urgent conditions. Depending on the procedure, it may not require a GA though, a lot of knee procedures are done under regional anaesthetic - I'm not sure what they feel about these in pregnancy though.

I was going to have a GA whilst pregnant with DD (long story) and was told that the risks were low between about 16-22 weeks.

Based on all the angst I went through, I'd just start TTC and see what happens. A bad knee when pregnant won't be the end of the world. And the NHS and its waiting list system being what it is, the timing of surgery could be almost as hard to predict as conception itself.
