Is that even a sign of IBS? Have had small bouts of it in the past, but this time its clinging on, a couple of weeks ago I had a week or so of being symptom free, but its back again

As soon as I eat something, within 15 mins, I feel it ahem... crowding up at the anus.

Even stranger, in the morning I normally have a solid stool, You dont think it could be something sinister do you? I have really bad HA.

What's HA?

I've been wondering about this myself as I have a very 'urgent' bowel. I get a cramp and have to go... about 6 times a day. DH reckons this isn't normal and I do remember a time when it was only twice a day minus cramps.

I shall watch this with interest.

I suffer with IBS and part of that is having urgency.

It's worth keeping a food and bowel diary to see if there's a common trigger. Your doctor can give you information about exclusion diets.

With me, it's not so much food that triggers it as stress. If I'm somewhere like a meeting when I know I can't just get up and go to the toilet it makes me nervous and I get a lot of discomfort.

HA is health anxiety.

How long you been like this for shocker? Is it following eating?

Flib, at the moment I am stearing clear of dairy stuff, I had pizza last night with no cheese

Have you been to the doctor? It is after eating and it's been a couple of years.I kind of just manage it but now I think, it has got steadily worse. I think I'll take my own advice and make an appointment.

I would have thought the wheat in the pizza base would be one of the things to maybe avoid.

bacon · 13/07/2010 11:40

I have successfully managed mine for a few years now with sensible eating (usually from scratch) not overboard with breads or cakes too. Also constant planning and organising my life to avoid stress.

I had the urgency terrible when I was pregnant.

The standard tablets from the docs work a treat for me I regualarly use the duloease for solid stools which cause me extreme agony.

I have also managed my anxiety problems. Change in lifestyle and a bit of cognative therapy. Until you sort out the HA then the IBS is not going to go away.

Dont get too hung up on the wheat and diary thing, I have read do much about this and alot of it isnt proven at all. Yes, with the over consumption of cheap wheat products has caused problems. So I would advise making bread products yourself with quality products, refer the book - Bread Matters - lots of very interesting info for improving diet and nutrition through making bread with organic wheats yeasts etc.

Eating too much fibre and hard to digest foods can also make for spasms in the bowel.

I have been taking Acidophilus in a Pro-biotic complex (got it in Boots) as this was recommended on MN about a month ago. It has really been working for me and oddly my nails are suddenly very strong and white!!

classic ibs symptoms, but you really need gp to rule anything sinister out first.i take immodium everywhere with me(and a change of clothes)
went to mil for sunday dinner last week,10 mins later got really bad cramping and diarrhea ...i get sick of having to explain its not your lovely dinner its just my dodgy guts.
i even saw consultant who did a magic eye ect, and he said theres nothing he can do,no magic pill, just learn to live with it.
stress does make it worse and during my period.ive tried the food diary route and nothing makes a difference.doctor did advise a book irritable bowel syndrome & diverticulosis a self help plan by shirley trickett.im dreading my sisters wedding in oct.

Try finding out yr. bloodtype "cos different people are intolerant to diff foods and there is a Blood type diet book Peter D,Adamo is author also google earth clinic.

stay clear of ibuprofen, I dunno if u take this for the cramps but it can upset the stomach and bowel in ibs sufferers. I was given peppermint tablets by my doctor to help with ibs and they gave me the same symptoms as u r having so its trial and error to find something that can help manage ibs.

rimmer08 · 17/07/2010 15:41

i get diarhoea after eating sometimes or stomach cramps- it does seem to depend on what i eat though. For example last night i had a gorgeous cheese pizza that obv. didnt agree with me and stmoach is still feeling like i need to go. I have cut down on dairy etc but just wanted a treat

topsi · 17/07/2010 20:01

I would advocate cutting all dairy, wheat, alcohol and caffine out of your diet. Try food combining, have some colonics. Be strict for a couple of months and see if it helps. Then slowly you could introduce the nasties back and see if you can then tollerate them. Also high strength good quality probiotic bacteria.
It worked for me.

loopylou6 · 18/07/2010 10:17

Thank you I have cut out dairy and it does seem to be helping a bit I think.

Will keep updating.
