Is anyone else voting tactically?

A tactical vote in my area would be Conservative about 2% ahead of Labour, I don’t want Labour and I usually vote Green. However I do not want a Labour super majority and as an MP our Conservative MP has generally served us well and he’s always got back to me.

What should I do? I am struggling to vote Conservative as I never have.

Bills get passed by votes.
Bills get scrutinised by MPs and Select Committees. If all of these are Labour MPs, whipped in to pushing them through, that's not democracy.
Starmer will also flood the House of Lords with Labour peerages, so this will make blocking Laws that might not suit the general public even easier to get through.

But that’s exactly what the Tories have done!

Your arguments make little sense. I have to assume you read the Mail or the Express and have fully drunk their coolade. How can you vote Tory if you are naturally a Green - you are voting for the party that allowed almost all the rivers and beaches in England to deteriorate while filling the pockets of water company shareholders. Also a majority of one in Parliament is enough, there is no such thing as a super majority, that applies where coalitions are the norm.

Sorry to jump on your thread OP but just to let you know that we are moving this thread to the GE section.

Yes I voted tactically.

First time in 30 years I didn't vote Labour.

I have reasons but main one being if it's a landslide there is no representation to keep them honest apart from the HOL which they will also fill with LP peers.

Yes I voted tactically (for Labour) to get the Tories out. Best chance where I live. I wanted to vote Lib Dem for the Europe thing. None of them any good on women except for the Tories so it bothered me slightly but I would never vote Conservative - fundamentally disagree with everything they believe in except for that.

I went Green, couldn’t go against my heart.

I won't be. I'm often told 'that's a wasted vote' but to me it's important that I vote for the person/party I choose to be the best.

Topseyt123 · 04/07/2024 13:06

I'll be voting tactically. In my area that means voting Labour, who have the best chance of unseating the current Conservative MP, or most likely making a significant dent in her usually large majority.

I've considered the LibDems, but think a Labour vote is best.

Good, that’s as it should be. We should all vote sincerely.

Tell you what, I am effing horrified at the amount of young people voting reform, especially young women.

Franzkafkascat · 04/07/2024 17:23

Well yes, my intelligent 21 year old son has. Blame that on the lies, corruption and false promises of the last 14 years.

Me too
Farage has caused so much damage to this country it is unbelievable. I don't buy in to conspiracy theories but it almost seems like he is working for Putin in the way that he is dividing the country.
He makes the Tories look like sweet cute kittens

But the tories have bought into Reform ideology because there’s a big crossover between the two parties. Most Reform voters are former Tory voters.
Matthew Elliott was massively involved with Russia and the Leave campaign. See his leadership of ‘Conservative friends of Russia’. Likewise Dom Cummings.
