Postal votes not arrived

I’ve heard a lot on the news about delays in getting postal votes to people. It seems that more people are choosing to vote by post.
I wonder why there is no way to vote on-line. I can do my banking on-line safely. I can order goods safely on-line why does the government not set up a method of voting on-line? It would be easy to make it secure. My camera would need to be on, and the software would then compare my face to the photo on my passport (which I ordered on-line seven years ago) or my driving licence. There would be a few other security questions as well
It would also make counting so quick and accurate.
It seems to be a simple solution to what appears to be a problem for many people.

Alternative methods of voting were trialled for some local elections in 2002 and 2003, with the main aim being increased turnout. I voted by text message as my area was one of those chosen for a trial. There have also been trials of electronic voting machines in polling stations.

There may be detailed reports on the trials somewhere but they were not successful in increasing turnout and also proved expensive so they were dropped. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4219008.stm

It was Labour policy in the 2015 election to have another go at alternative voting methods, but it is yet another policy that has disappeared.

To anyone clever enough to suggest electronic voting, one word: Horizon.

I've worked in IT all my life and wouldn't trust an electronic vote as far as I could throw you. Pencil. Paper. All the way.
