I read a lot of postal votes have been messed up and emergency polling booths have been put up in some constituencies.

No use if you have left for holiday of course.

Can anyone guess how much a lost vote is worth ?

What’s a lot, and which of the 650 constituencies?

can you link to where you’ve read this.

Granted postal votes do have a Royal Mail dependency .😳

postal vote

What is happening with postal votes?

Concerns are being raised over delays to postal vote forms arriving ahead of the general election next Thursday.

Hopefully there'll be an investigation into which constituency electoral offices are responsible for not having sent the ballot papers out early enough.

Mine arrived to Italy about 10 days ago. From another thread it seems like there are ongoing problems though in other areas.

@SerendipityJane thanks for the link

As I say. Value of a vote = £0

The named and shamed - noting its 13 constituencies 6 of which are in the same geographic area of Scotland - include (in England now) a number of conservative councils disadvantaging their own conservative voters. Certain irony there.

The link through to the Torygraph has an excellent quote from Sir John Curtice.

HoCL stats shows typically around 20% of GE votes are postal votes - I'l admit I though the overall % would be a bit higher than that. The variability between constituencies would be interesting to see. . As would the scale of any uplift for this GE. What the HOCL stats don't show, or at least I didn't see, is the return rate for Postals, or indeed the percentage that do return but don't correctly complete it (eg don't add their signature).

I've only tried to use a postal vote once and it arrived far too late.

The BBC article seemed to be saying that the postal votes had been delayed for those who failed to register by the 7 June deadline. Is that correct?

If that's the case, then it isn't great, but the onus is partly on those who didn't register in time. Yes, maybe the dates could have been publicised better, but I heard it mentioned numerous times on the TV and radio so the info was out there if people wanted it.

If people who did register on time haven't received their ballot papers in a timely manner, then that's a very different story because they have effectively been disenfranchised through no fault of their own. That is absolutely not acceptable.

DD has a postal vote this time because she will be away next week. Hers arrived a week or so ago, but she would be absolutely fuming if it hadn't!

The big issue seems to concern people who applied for a postal vote before the 19 June deadline but after 7 June.
It appears that 7 June was a significant administrative deadline, although this was never publicised.

I don't agree that it was never publicised though. I heard about it on the BBC itself!

There isn't enough space in the margin of this screen to go into the reportage of the BBC 😀

The SNP were right when they mentioned the election being in Scottish school holidays and showing how this had not been considered. The poor performance of Royal Mail is well known.
