Jane if you are on here, thank you! It does sound to me as if he's having to think more seriously about this issue. But he's still saying toxic and most marginalised.

OP posts:
AllProperTeaIsTheft · 28/06/2024 19:15

He said there would be safe spaces I honestly don't get the issue.

What does 'safe spaces' mean?! Labour can promise 'safe spaces' and then subsequently decide what their own definition of 'safe' is. It's utterly meaningless.

GateauxBlaster · 28/06/2024 19:16

I'd like a Labour government. I need single sex spaces.

Surely if a rapist is going to go in a toilet or something they will find a way.
Again this has never been an issue in my life nor know of anyone it has affected. I know that can be seen as a strange argument. I honestly can't get my head around it. I have tried and tried but I just can't get as bothered as you all.

Hungry kids in school, crowded a and e. Working in a food bank all weigh on my mind more.

Is this your first time thinking about it? If so I'll happily explain some of the implications. It's a very serious issue.

If you have thought about it and decided you still think men being able to identify their way wherever they want- call themselves lesbian, set new records in sport that women will never reach, sleep in the girls' tents on guide camps- then frankly you are no friend to women and I won't waste my time explaining.

StarCourt · 28/06/2024 19:29

@Iloveshihtzus public toilets aren't always single sex spaces. I was in some unisex toilets with DD15a couple of weeks ago, she felt sick and was having a panic attack because she was too hot. 2 men walked in and it freaked her out completely

Why lock your door at night? Surely, if a burglar/rapist/murderer wants to get in, they'll find a way? 🤦‍♀️ jfc

Probably, but not enforcing single sex spaces makes it easier for rapists.

so when I was 11yo a girl I knew from school was raped in the toilets of a national trust property. The rapist had been lurking in the women’s toilets. Now in this case nobody saw him enter and he hid in a cubicle. But back in the 80s if a woman had seen him in there they’d have shouted at him and turfed him out.

but these days you’d just have to shut up and be kind and not say anything 🤷‍♀️

can you really not see how letting men in single sex spaces puts us at risk from a minority? It’s not even about trans individuals in women’s spaces , it’s about men. Who may not even be trans but may take advantage of the blurring of boundaries.

Paedophiles find a way too, do you advocate getting rid of DBS checks because they are not perfect?

Safeguarding is about minimising risk with the acceptance that it can rarely be eliminated altogether.

The majority of men don't burgle houses either, but a few do, and that hasn't stopped people finding new ways of deterring this, ring doorbells etc.

What you don't do is say 'ah fuck it, if someone wants to burgle they're going to do it anyway' and dismantle all safeguarding measures as we know them.

Whattersnow · 29/06/2024 09:01

But there isnt some weird force field around toilets. So the arguments make no sense.

Also I think Keir says what he does as he will be mindful of Esther Ghey and people like BG who were very vulnerable.

Also what about woman that want to be men. There seems to be a fair few in my daughters year. Year 12.

I can actually see both sides.

I think most woman in real life don't either.

But if some tory voters don't have this "issue" to cite as a reason, what other reason could they possibly have with any moral compass over the last 14 years to vote tory .

They don't want to hear it.

Jane did well to start with- but then just became rude and not allowing him to speak, I find that really annoying. She did well saying we don't want know what he's done in the past- but he did say "yes..."more than once when asked sill he protect biological women spaces - he just didn't get the chance to get past that bit until nicky had to jump in to ask her to stop interrupting and let him speak.

ThatMauveSnake · 28/06/2024 17:36

I’m aware of that provision, and Starmer’s position is that he supports it. It allows transwomen to be excluded when it’s a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim.

But it is not a blanket ban on transwomen from all women’s spaces, which is what many (including the caller) are demanding.

You'd have to ban the GRC. The Tories aren't going to do that either.

cupcaske123 · 29/06/2024 09:26

Inthesummertimewhen · 28/06/2024 18:16

@OneOfAKind3 he can't answer because in this area he is not interested in women's rights in every area when it's women v minority, the minority will win . As he keeps saying, absolutely when it's a clear cut case of violence and rape, yes.
But men entering women's spaces and self id? No on that, it's all about the men's rights.

Edited

Labour aren't bringing in self ID

RhannionKPSS · 29/06/2024 20:19

Thank you Jane 💚🤍💜

itsnotabouthepasta · 29/06/2024 20:35

Why can’t someone bring up the fucking numbers to Starmer et al?

the last census said there were 275,000 people identifying as transgender in the uk, equivalent to 0.5% of the population (even this is now deemed to be vastly over estimated due to the shitshow of questioning).

there are also 34.21 million women in the uk (last census).

why the fuckity fuck are we in this situation where our political leaders are prepared to throw away votes from 34 MILLION to target 275 THOUSAND? Someone give them a sodding calculator.

whats more, there are between 650,000-850,000 on the sex offenders list who would LOVE the opportunity to try and get into women only safe spaces and have the immediate loophole argument of “I’m allowed in here, I think I’m a woman”

the simple maths of it all is utterly mind boggling.

Rapists get mentioned a lot in this discussion, but it's not just about rapists and it's not just about toilets. Read about the nurses forced to share a changing room with a transwoman, or the transwoman in Germany suing for access to the women's changing room, despite having been provided with his own changing room. Or the transwomen wanking on women's clothing in M&S women's changing rooms, because staff can't or won't stop them going in . Or the perverts photographing teenage girls in Primark "mixed gender" changing rooms

Because we're women, and some of them are men, and after all these decades of women's rights, we still don't count as much as the men.

As I understand it the issue is that those safe spaces will be for women. If you believe that men who feel in their bones they're women are indeed women, then they will also be allowed into women only safe spaces.

I think it's because many women just aren't aware of the issues and so aren't explaining the issues to the powerful people (men) who could support us to do something about it. Even on here there are so many "what's the issue?" replies.

Good point. It’s not just the worst horror movie type men. Read the relationship boards. Plenty of everyday Joes who would not give a flying shit about women’s dignity and would selfishly dominate just because they can.

The ‘I don’t see the issue’ women are the real crack in the dam though. Men don’t give a shit because they’re at the top of the power pyramid and it doesn’t affect them. But these gormless handmaids won’t give a shit about the rights of other women til it’s too late and it comes to their door.

None of that is happening under Labour. That's happening under the Tories. The OP is talking about Labour.

What the actual fuck? It's happening regardless who is in power. That won't suddenly stop when Labour get into power. Jesus Christ on a bike at this attitude.
